Pepin confirms permanent status for 24 prairie rail lines
Transport Minister Jean-Luc Pepin declared 24 prairie branch lines totaling 1048 kilometres, including the Rossburn Subdivision, permanently in the network with upgrades planned. The move, backed by grain industry leaders and western delegates, keeps lines from abandonment and ties them to ongoing federal rail rebuilding funds of at least 240 million dollars. Pepin cited farmer expectations, industry consultations, and the need for certainty, while signaling continued CTC review and potential public hearings.
