An 80 ft CN flatcar unloaded whey drying equipment for the Rossburn Manco cheese plant. Manager Gilles Hebert said the system will let the plant dry whey for animal feed and be ready by October 1 after renovations. Ernie Drozda Construction of Shoal Lake supervised unloading.
A volunteer effort at Waywayseecappo Presbyterian Church on the Lizard Point Indian Reserve led to the current church's solid structure but a failing foundation. The church plans a new foundation with space for three classrooms and a kitchenette to serve as a winter worship and activity center. Donations to the Building Fund are welcomed via Henry Tanner, Jeanne Stright, Richard Oudie, or at the Band Office with Alma Tanner, with income tax receipts and a memorial book.
The Rossburn Village Council, meeting July 28 1980, moves to apply for a $3500 Sport Facilities 80 grant for main hall improvements while approving building permits, a land purchase bylaw, park and nursery school accommodations, and a Civic Holiday proclamation for August 4. It also notes library board commendations and adjourns to August 14.
Extremely heavy rainfall drenched rural areas over the weekend with 67.8 mm recorded during intermittent rain and thunderstorms. Temperatures ranged from a high of 30 to a low around 8 as showers continued through late week with several daily totals reported in the 6 to 25 mm range. This week compared to last year shows a high of 30 and a low of 8, reflecting cooler conditions overall.
