2 800 Students Find Jobs Through Centres
More than 2,800 rural and northern Manitoba youths found summer work through Hire-A-Student Job Centre program run by Youth Services Directorate with 40 centres. 1,695 regular and 1,015 casual jobs were filled, with 5,650 registered and 4,629 employer contracts. Regions show hundreds of placements. as of July 14, 310 regular and 68 casual positions remained open. Bingo winners listed.

Park district planning consent approved for regional district
The Local Government District of Park held a July 25 1978 meeting in Horod Manitoba with Reeve Russell Nowalkowski presiding. Delegations included MLA Harry Graham and ratepayer Arnold Tokaryk. The council agreed to form a Planning District with Clanwilliam Erickson Harrison and Park, approved cheques, and discussed a culvert project and a road/lighting matter. Next meeting set for August 14 1978 in Russell.

Court Communicator Program Is Renewed
Manitoba renews the court communicator program to aid native people in understanding legal rights. Attorney General Gerry Mercier notes cost sharing with federal funds and that courtworkers provide non legal guidance, explain charges and court procedures, and help natives speak for themselves or seek counsel. Workers must know at least one Indian language plus English and train with judges, probation officers, police, crown attorneys, and legal aid lawyers. The program, begun 1971, aimed to address high native admissions to provincial institutions due to language barriers.
