A barn owned by Jonh Collins of Rossburn was gutted by fire on Tuesday afternoon April 28. An alarm at 5:30 pm prompted neighbors to act, saving horses and cattle in a 16 by 28 foot frame barn with a 12 by 28 lean-to. About six tons of hay burned. wind was light and spread contained. Insurance partially covers the loss.
D K Whyte elected president at a Monday night meeting for Rossburn Tennis Club. Tory Tronrud named Secretary Treasurer and D R Hodge Vice President. Social Committee includes J Murphy J G Stitt and Bill Elvers. Grounds and Work Committee comprises B Joiner B Crookshanks G Chesney and Rev Cieply. Membership fees set at $2 for adults and $1 50 for students. Adults have court priority after 7 p m weekdays and Thursday afternoon. Members urged to pay promptly to fund court preparations. Court to be on Victoria Avenue on Village of Rossburn owned land.
The Binscarth Young People presented a three act comedy Eyes of Love at Rossburn Town Hall on Monday April 20. A smaller crowd attended than expected but the performance was enjoyed by all. Lunch was served to the cast afterward by members of the Ladies' Aid.
Funeral service for Mrs Anna Antonow aged 82 years 7 months was held at Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery Rossburn Farms northeast of Rossburn on Tuesday April 28 Rev E Olynek officiated Interment followed at the church cemetery She died at her son Andrew's home on Friday April 24 She was widow of Fred Antonow born in Western Ukraine among the first Ukrainian settlers to Rossburn district in 1899 Surviving are three sons Andrew John Mike all of Rossburn and daughters Mrs Andrew Chuhay Winnipeg and Mrs Glenn North Dakota predeceased by her husband about twelve years ago
John Coughlan graduates top of Bethel Bible Institute Saskatoon earning a pennant and first in a class of twelve. He, son of Mr and Mrs Wm Coughlan Rossburn, will begin as pastor at Hamiota on May 3 1953 after attending the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada conference in Winnipeg. Graduation was April 21 at Knox United Church Saskatoon with Rev R M Argue chairing and Rev Walter E McAllister as speaker.

Ratepayers in Angus School district vote Friday May 1 on a 40000 debenture to erect a new four room school in Angusville. Polls open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Municipal Office. Debentures repaid over twelve years. Trustees and many citizens expect approval due to the inadequate present school.
Florence Mary McFeetors and Glen McKay Fraser wed at St Stephen's Broadway United Church in Winnipeg in an 8 p.m. April 18 ceremony conducted by Dr. Harold Frame. The couple, from Rossburn Manitoba and Winnipeg, planned a reception for about eighty guests and will reside at Ste. 3269 Tache Ave in St Boniface after a honeymoon trip to Minneapolis.
Alfred Bone won the Silver Cup at an amateur contest and dance sponsored by Lizard Point Reserve and Waywayseecappo Reserve on Friday April 24. Net proceeds about 190 dollars will buy sports equipment for the reserves. Participants included Indians from Rolling River Elphinstone Birdtail Sioux and Waywayseecappa. Prize winners included Alfred Rone Gilbert Oudie Lionel Shannacappe and others with a door prize won by Frank Blackie. The Rolling River Boys provided music for the dance after the contest.
Members of the Rossburn Bantam Basketball Club gathered at Mr and Mrs M Sion to honor coach Harris Huston and show thanks for his winter season efforts. They presented an ornamental deer set, with attendees including Mike Melnyk Delroy Stitt Barrie Mitchell Wray Palmer Paul Mamaluga Allan Boychuk Harold Sion and Harris Huston. Additional players Ronnie Yanick Mervyn Michalyshyn Tony Twerdochlic from Oakburn and Willie Zimmer Morris Chuchmuch from Angusville attended along with a luncheon closing the event.
Invitations have been sent to all high schools in Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario to nominate a student for a United Nations Society Special Seminar at the University of Manitoba July 13 to 17, 1953. With room for 180 attendees, earliest nominations receive preference. Lecturers are highly qualified and students will return to share UN objectives and achievements.
