MPC Improves Service Across Manitoba Power Network in March

March weather aided progress on Manitoba Power Commission projects with about 2,000 brush-clearing contracts for rural areas and a 33 kv ring feed added to Brandon. The Grand Beach substation was energized, Lac du Bonnet and Killarney changes completed, Swan River Valley renovations wrapped, Benito system renovation underway, and a 625 member employee convention in Winnipeg set future plans. The commission distributed 35,469,500 kilowatthours of electricity in March, an 18 percent rise from last year.

The Liberal Progressive Association for the Russell constituency met at the Army and Navy Veterans Hall on May 4 and elected Honorary Presidents Stuart Garson and D L Campbell, President W W Wilson, Vice President Harris Huston, and Secretary-Treasurer Jack Thom. Poll captains were named for most divisions, and an open meeting was approved, followed by a nominating convention in Angusville on May 11 to be run by delegates based on votes.

Hidden Treasures film shown at Rossburn church Thursday

The Moody Institute of Science documentary Hidden Treasures will be screened at the Rossburn Pentecostal Church Thursday at 8 p.m. Produced by Dr. Irwin A. Moon the film explores creation with telescope and microscope showing diatoms amoebae and minute organisms. The MIS crew filmed from dungeon caves to a research ship aboard the Hancock Foundation vessel.

Pioneer Alex Dnistransky laid to rest in Olha

Alex Dnistransky died suddenly at his home on Good Friday at age 70. The funeral was held April 6 at St Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church with Rev Olynek officiating. interment followed at Olha Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery. He was born March 20 1883 in Zwihol Austria and came to Olha in 1909. He married Kathrine Dmyterko in 1913 and farmed in the district since then. Surviving: Kathrine, two sons Peter and Joseph, three daughters Anne Prosyk Mary and Marge, and two grandchildren.

Friends Honor Carol McIntosh At Shower

A large crowd attended a miscellaneous shower Monday evening May 4 at the Legion Hall in honor of Miss Carol McIntosh bride elect for Saturday May 16. The room was decorated with pink and white streamers and bells. Carol walked in to Here Comes The Bride played by Mrs. C. Locke and sat with the bride’s mother on one side and the groom’s mother Mrs. Ellis of Oakburn on the other. Each of the three received corsages of tulips. Alva Williamson read the address as gifts from the telephone operators were presented. Carol thanked the hosts and a luncheon was served to finish the evening.
