April Village Council Meeting in Rossburn 1961

The Village of Rossburn council met April 18 1961 in the council chambers. Mayor J G Stitt and Councillors Aylwin Antonin and Drosdoski were present. They approved the March financial report and bought chairs for 2.00 each, updated the constable’s outfit, passed By Law 340 for Manitoba Savings Bonds, sought Winter Works approval, donated 5 to the Red Cross, granted building permits to Don Stitt and Joe Ziemianski, and approved general bills totaling 7129.63 for adjournment to reconvene on call of the Mayor.

Rossburn U C Y Club sponsors a Friday dance at the Town Hall with Bob Corley’s Orchestra. Admission is 75 cents.

Rossburn Cemetery Committee holds a bingo May 2 at 8pm in Town Hall basement with cash and ham prizes across 20 games and 25 cent extra cards. Ukr United Church Ladies host a Mother's Day Tea May 6 in the annex from 9 to 11 pm. all welcome.

Auction Dates Noted for Roguskey Estate and Others

The notice lists sale dates for the estate of Steve Roguskey on April 29 and Mike Kacan on May 1 with J H Menzies as auctioneer. It also announces the 4H Sewing Club Achievement Day on May 5 at 7 30 p m at Ressburn School and the Oakburn Memorial Rinks Second Annual Fastball Tournament on Sunday May 21 with open attendance.

Rossburn Social News Highlights From Selkirk to Ontario

Mrs Greta Gordon and baby Sandra of Selkirk visited her parents the Williamsons with Greta and Sandra returning with Donald Gordon. John and Mavis Williamson and baby Dale, Eddie Carson, and the Klym family traveled and visited relatives in Ontario, St Catharines, Toronto, Fort William and Geraldton. Mrs Theresa Maryniuk with Walter Bobinski and Mike Antonation helped them home. Wishes for speedy recoveries go to Mrs Pokropany in Birtle Hospital and Harry Komhyr in Mical Lake Hospital. Bobby Carson returned to Dawson Creek after three weeks of holidaying with relatives.

Red Cross Bingo Successful Event in Rossburn

A Red Cross bingo at Rossburn Town Hall on Tuesday April 18 raised support and prizes. Winners included Sam Silewich Handy-Lite and Mrs N Scarrow Towels and a Frig. Set plus Basket. Terry Nychuk won two cups and saucers. Joe Antonin claimed four theatre tickets.

Rossburn Senior Baseball Club reorganizes and joins league

The Rossburn Senior Baseball Club held its re organization meeting on Wednesday April 19 at the Municipal Office. It decided to continue in the North West Baseball League. The 16 and Under team also met and agreed to enter the district league. Coach of the 16 and unders is Doug Joiner.

Mercury Vapor Lights Approved By Utilities Board

The Public Utilities Board approval reached the town office on Wednesday confirming a changeover on Main Street from 300 watt halophane to 400 watt Mercury Vapor lights. The request, first made last summer, had been previously denied.

Manitoba Flying Farmer of the Year Named at Convention

Mr and Mrs Alex Cleland traveled to Brandon for the regional Flying Farmers convention held with Manitoba's 5th annual gathering. Cleland, Manitoba President the past year, was named Flying Farmer of the Year at the Saturday banquet in the Prince Edward Hotel. About 190 attended the convention with 51 planes flying in. the regional group covers Manitoba North Dakota South Dakota and Wisconsin. The new provincial president is Carman Ryan from Foxwarren.

Funeral Rites For Phyllis Bilinsky

High School student Phyllis Bilinsky of Vista Manitoba died April 13 after a short illness at Birtle Hospital. Born 1944 near Vista she was the daughter of Mr and Mrs Paul Bilinsky. Funeral services were held at Vista Hall and Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church with burial at the local cemetery. Pallbearers named. many relatives attended from Winnipeg Vancouver Portage Regina and Selsgirth. Raginski Funeral Home of Oakburn arranged the rites.

Rossburn Predator Control Bounty Details

The Rossburn Game & Fish Association sponsors a bounty for crow and magpie legs in the Rossburn area. Bounty is 10 cents per crow leg and 15 cents per magpie leg. The secretary handles the bounty, accepting legs only on Friday and Saturday afternoons from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. legs must be in good condition.
