Apriliterai Council Meeting Debates Grants and Tenders
The Apriliterai Council read last meeting minutes and confirmed. The financial report for the month ending March 31 1961 was adopted. The council accepted an $80 cash offer for part of Section 31 Two, with preference if Obedniak was interested. They adopted the advisory board report to Birtle Shoal Lake Health Unit and directed tenders for gravel loading, screening, and hauling for 1961 to be opened April 29 1961. Grants of 25 to the Canadian Red Cross and 10 to the Salvation Army were approved. Old grader blades for eight ft at 1.25 and six ft at 1.00 were approved for sale. An advert for applications for a second part time Patrol Operator was set for April 29 1961. Bills totaling 6339.64 were approved for payment. The council adjourned to meet April 29 and May 9 1961.

Mr Tory Tronrud of Winnipeg visited the Bakers. Mike Zemliak of Russell spent the weekend with his parents. Mel Ham and Junior of Lauder visited the Bakers for a 50th anniversary. Phyllis Belinsky died at Birtle Hospital last Thursday. Relatives from Vancouver Portage Shortdale Winnipeg Regina Selsgirth attended prayers and the funeral.

Interesting Find on John Cormack Farm Parachute Radio Sonde
Ronnie Miller and Gordon Crookshanks discovered a radio sonde set used by the United States for weather data on John Cormack's farm SE 21-19-24. The object included two parachutes, one large and one small, and was found on Sunday.

Hamiltons celebrate 50th wedding anniversary at family home
A large gathering on April 15 1961 honored Mr and Mrs W J Hamilton on their 50th anniversary. Guests from Vista and Rossburn as well as distant relatives in Toronto Muskoka Brandon and Ottawa sent congratulations. A family toast followed dinner and open house was held later from 4 to 5 pm with gifts presented by relatives.

Fashion Show by Vista Ladies Sewing Clubs at Oakburn Parish Hall
A March 15 fashion show in Oakburn Parish Hall drew a large crowd as 34 of 37 students modeled to Billy Vaughn orchestra. Commentators included Lena Wavrick Ann Pol es Marge Matiowsky and Mary Stitt. Proceeds of 29.75 went to the Girls 4-H Sewing Club.
