Donations for the 1976 Red Cross Campaign in Rossburn totalled 836.50, up from 600.00 in 1975. Special thanks go to the Waywayseecappo Indian Band for a 100.00 gift and to canvassers who braved the elements. The effort is praised as a major success of the year.
Rossburn Lions Club sponsored another in the series of Dental Clinics for Rossburn community held March 16 25. The clinic served 391 eligible children with consents and 274 total appointments. Estimated treatment value per the M D A fee guide totaled about 4367.90 dollars, per report from Dr J E Purdie regional dental director.
The Rossburn United Church Women held their regular meeting in the Lower Church Hall on April 13. Penny led Easter devotions, sixteen members answered roll call with a favorite Scripture verse, minutes were adopted, and the treasurer reported. Funds of 2000 were proposed for the Building Committee Fund, plastic tablecloths were approved, and an adopted child letter from Yeung Fong Ching was noted. A Dauphin meeting invite and a Work Day for April 21 were announced, with next gathering on May 11 at 8:00 p.m.
Darell and Vicky Andrews former Rossburn residents received The Manitoba Flying Farmers most deserving couple of the Year award. They served as News Editors for the 1975 term for the MFF Chapter. The prize was given at the MFF Annual Convention banquet at the International Inn Winnipeg on April 9 and 10. The award was presented by the managing director of Standard Aero Engine Ltd Winnipeg. The couple agreed to accept the Editor's post for another term in 1976.
The Rossburn Venturers thank all who attended their April 9 Ham Bingo and Russell Meat Processors for donating three hams. Winners of the ham prizes included Alice Prus Matt Chicheluk Mark Stitt Harry Drosdoski Nick Bonchuk and others with several recipients earning two hams each.
The Rural Municipality of Rossburn council met in Council Chambers on Monday April 12 at 10 30 am with Reeve John Mitchell presiding and councillors Ernest Drul Joe Dnistransky Bill Antonow and Wally Pesholk in attendance. Motions adopted include minutes from the March 8 regular session and March 29 special meeting.
At the regular meeting of Silver Creek RM with all members present the 1976 budget was approved. Special No 37 45.5 53.5 and Special No 38 38.5 44.5 were noted. Cameron Fiett appointed Weed Inspector. Machine accounts $3,237.50 and General Accounts $10,858.11 approved. Secretary granted leave May 3–6 for convention. Maintenance man sought for Silver Beach 1976. Tentative road programs discussed. Next meeting May 11 at 8:00 a.m. Fire facilities committee formed with Rossburn. Overtime charged to Machines Operating Account. Tender call for electric heating system at Municipal Office closes May 7, 1976. Reports on Russell meeting and MACC discussions noted.
A weather summary notes gale force north east winds and blustery conditions through Good Friday with heavy freezing rain creating an icy cover on streets and highways. Conditions improve Sunday but remain cool and unsettled overall.
The Rhossourn Golf City annual meeting on April 19 at the Curling Rink elected officers: President Otto Elvers Vice-President Bob Pritchard Sec Treas Nick Kalyniuk and Grounds Committee Elmer Brown Sterling Veitch Otto Elvers Nick Kalyniuk. The Spring Tournament is set for June 5 and 6. Membership fees stay the same as 1975: Men 20 Ladies 13 Family 35 Non Resident Men 15 Ladies 10 Junior 10. A committee will study grass greens feasibility.
The Gospel Road by Johnny and June Carter Cash will show Sunday April 25 at 7 30 p m in Rossburn Town Hall. World Wide Pictures distributes it. The feature blends scripture based narration with songs and portrayals focusing on Israel and the crucifixion to convey a current meaningful story for all ages.
