The Official Opening of Rossburn Collegiate drew 250 attendees despite blizzard conditions. The event featured O Canada, speeches by local officials and project representatives, a ribbon cutting, and a tour of the new 20,000 square foot building costing about 330000 dollars with 9 classrooms and various facilities.
The school announces a junior high party in the auditorium on Friday April 22. The intra mural tournament crowned Paulette Pawluk and Ronald Major as champions with their teams receiving basketball crests.
Easter Monday christening at the parents’ Solsgirth home for Taras Konyk with godparents Willis Levitsky and Marion Baliziuk. Twins Calvin Charles and Conrad Wayne Matiowsky christened March 13 at Ukr. Catholic Church Solsgirth with godparents Mrs Ann Kowal and Victor Koscielny and Mrs Stella Zimmerman and Marvin Koscielny. A turkey supper followed with attendance by Tony Kowal family, Joe Zimmerman family, John Koscielny family, and others.
Seven members of the First Rossburn Troop Leslie Major Ken Hamilton Delmar Taylor Gordie Elvers Harvey Komhyr Ernie Werbowski and Donald Ament received Queen Scout Certificates from Mr Justice F M Bastin in the Skyview Room after a luncheon with speaker Hon Gurney Evans. The event honored rural Scouts for years of effort toward the high distinction.
The Rossburn village council met April 19 1966 in the council chambers with Mayor Peter Wiadyka and Councillors Antonin Drosdoski Verbowski Kombyr present. The body adopted minutes approved reports and gave second reading to By Law 384 establishing a Public Recreation Commission and granted building permits to John Cormack Drozda and Mike F Drozda. The group scheduled the next meeting for May 16 1966 at 8 PM.
The Easter Seal Fund Campaign closes at month end with about a quarter of mailed appeals returned with contributions. Remind recipients to send back the pink envelopes by April 30th via mail or Rossburn Pharmacy drop box. a published list of all contributions will follow in the Rossburn Review.
Wednesday evening Jackpot Bingo winners include several $4.00 prizes led by Walter Kowal with $15.00 and Matt Pokrapany with $15.00. A tie for first at $25.00 involves Mrs. Nick Krym and Steve Pokrapany. other names show $4.00 to $5.00 prizes.
The Manitoba Centennial Corporation hosts a public regional meeting in Birtle on Saturday April 30 to inform residents about Centennial Plans and stress civic involvement. Premier Duff Roblin will speak at a lunch starting 12 15 with a $2 fee. The column notes interest in reviving a local Chamber of Commerce and mentions real estate moves, building permit applications, and a rink at Russell Bonspiel. It also reports a power outage during the Collegiate opening and credits Manitoba Hydro crews.
