Rossburn Hornets honor team at annual windup banquet
The Rossburn Hornets held their year end windup and awards banquet on Saturday April 12 at the Rossburn Town Hall with a large crowd. A supper was enjoyed, Rick Plaister gave grace, and Hal Hedley thanked cooks and Leo Club helpers. Orest Smycnnik acted as MC. Nelson Luhowy reported a $1,794.30 current balance after a year of $14,844.47 income and $13,050.17 expenses. The event recognized club organizers and awarded trophies for Most Gentlemanly Player Fred Nicks, Rookie Brad Lonsberry, Top Scorer Ron Hedley, Most Popular Player Kevin Hedley, and Most Valuable Player Ralph Bradbury. Dancing closed the night with Adam Krupa.

School Board approves roofing advance and route changes
The Pelly Trail School Division met at 1:00 PM on Monday April 8. Trustees accepted previous minutes and reports from Transportation and Maintenance and the Superintendent. Oakwood Roofing received another advance on Major Pratt School and Rossburn Collegiate repairs as work nears completion. The board tender bus routes and adjust others, with notices to be posted in area papers. Families may receive in lieu of payment for transporting their own children on changed routes. Vince Furman presented the Transportation Committee report which was approved. Bev McLennan hired part time secretary at Bisncorth Elementary. Two delegates to the Canadian School Trustees Association convention in Montreal May 31 to June 4 will be chosen later. A resolution to require board approval for any Industrial Arts equipment purchases or sales was passed. A letter supporting the Children's Dental Program will be sent to Health Minister and local MLAs. Dr V Rosnoski spoke on Manitoba Dental Program proposals.

Lack of spring runoff harms Manitoba trout farmers
The Manitoba Rainbow Trout Farmers Association faces a 1980 season with water shortages. About 200000 fingerlings remain unsold as farmers seek more pond water and dugouts. The voluntary group, formed in 1973, has shipped nearly five million fingerlings, mainly from South Dakota, with logistics including a Rolling River reserve distribution center and transport by truck and air to lakes across Manitoba.

At the twelfth meeting Ernie Stefanuk and Ernie Antonow outlined a suggested table of contents for a forthcoming history book. Ten schools have been researched at the Archives by Mike Sotas. The club acknowledges contributions from several groups and individuals, requests old photos with names and context, and notes the next meeting on April 21 at 7:30 PM in the Municipal Office.
