Rossburn RM votes not to pay for snow clearing charges
The Rural Municipality of Rossburn held a 10:00 A.M. meeting on Monday April 14 with Reeve John Mitchell and councillors Klym Peleshok Antonow Sitko. Unanimous motions approved March and April minutes, March financial statements, cash disbursements, and a formal bylaw to close a public road as per Plan No. 3249. A second bylaw to close a road portion in Section 21 Township 21 Range 24 and Plan No. 1746 awaits ministerial approval. See Council on Page 6.

The Rural Municipality of Rossburn announces a balanced 1980 budget with revenues budgeted at 482700, up from 440000 last year. Last year's actual revenues were 460790, and expenditures are set to equal the budgeted revenues.

Mill rate increase raises school and municipal levies
The budget rises by 8.3 mills from last year with farm and residential property taxes set at 128.0 mills and commercial property at 158.9 mills. Last year’s expenditures totaled 462,219 with a year end deficit of 1,429. An extra 2.9 mills on farms and residential and a 5.4 mill Municipal Levy increase drive the overall rise in levies.

Village of Rossburn approves sewer service agreement
At its April meeting the Rossburn Village Council unanimously approves a five year sewer cleaning contract with Municipal Sewer Maintenance Limited of Regina and authorizes travel for officials to the 1980 City Towns and Village meeting. The council also adopts March 19 minutes, notes audit fee increase, defers Parkland Regional Development membership, funds hall caretakers, and endorses UM provincial education funding reform.

Manitoba Potash Exploration in Westman Area Agreement Signed
Premier Sterling Lyon announced a letter of intent with IMC Canada allowing detailed seismic exploration and subsurface drilling to evaluate potash deposits in western Manitoba. IMC Canada will conduct a $2 million exploration program beginning when road and ground conditions permit, with crown rights available for evaluation and Manitoba retaining a 25 percent development participation right. Royalty payments and potential long term economic benefits are anticipated for southwest Manitoba.
