The Rural Municipality of Rossburn council met with all members present and voted a grant of 35 dollars to the Red Cross Society. The minutes note three Old Age Pension applications under review.
Snow melt prompts town meeting to form the Gan Lota Seniors Baseball Club with J. VonHagen as president Howard McIntosh as vice president Gary Lindsay secretary treasurer and Bill Carson manager. Duff Whyte named playing coach. practices set for Tuesday and Friday evenings.
The Rossburn Curling Club convened at the rink on Wednesday April 4. Officers elected include President Norman Major Vice President J Von Hagen Secretary R Irwin Treasurer J Harlow and Draw committee members J Lindsay Bob Crookshanks El mer Brown Jack Lindsay. Bonspiel committee names Ken Holmes Wes Williamson E Caldwell O McFeeters.
The Easter week gatherings feature the Manitoba Teachers' Convention and the Manitoba Education Association at the Royal Alexandra Hotel. Delegates discuss pensions curriculum and ethics while specialists lecture on math social studies and more. The Winnipeg Schools' orchestra performs and junior high students attend an indoor track event. The program, though tiring, leaves teachers refreshed with new ideas.
Mrs Gordon Taylor thanks all who sent letters and cards and especially the Ladies' Aid for the fruit and plant during her recent illness. She says these acts of kindness will be long remembered.
I extend sincere thanks to Dr. J. Johnson of Rossburn for timely aid during illness. Highest praise to Rossburn Hospital Nursing Staff for vigilance and care during convalescence. Gratitude to numerous friends who visited at my sickbed.
George G. Elias of Haskett Manitoba wins the 1950 National Barley Contest with the top malting barley entry earning $1,000 cash plus regional and provincial prizes totaling $1,300. Alberta's Hans J. Mueller is runner up with $300, marking Manitoba dominance in recent years.
Mrs. Henrietta Beirnes died March 26 1951 at St Josephs Hospital Barrhead Alberta aged 92 born Zora Ontario moved to Manitoba in 1890 after first husbands death later remarried to Joseph Beirnes of Selsgirth Manitoba and lived in Rossburn Calgary Coronation before joining her son in Barrhead three sons survive funeral held at Barrhead United Church conducted by Rev J E Nix burial in Barrhead Cemetery pallbearers listed mourners from Edmonton included Donald Ross and Mrs Dodds
Rossburn's forty second annual exhibition and sports will be held on Tuesday, July 31. A directors meeting last Friday changed the date to align with Casey mid way who promises a bigger and better event. Prizes have been increased and new items added to the exhibition list. prize lists will be available in May after secretary treasurer makes changes.
George Williamson, an 83 year old well known farmer, was seriously injured at his Rossburn farm after a faint spell at the barn and contact with cattle. He was rushed to Brandon hospital in critical condition.
