Rossburn to Celebrate Waterworks Opening with Lions Sports Day

The village of Rossburn marks 50 years with the official opening of its Waterworks and Sewage installation on Saturday June 13 during the Lions Club Sports Day. Mayor Peter Wladyka spurred plans for observances with a Sports Day Committee chaired by Norm Major and a Civic Improvement Committee chaired by Harris Huston. Committees named include Publicity Harry Aylwin Decorating Harry Drosdoski Parade Ed Shust Sports Norm Major Program Harris Huston Catering Mike Antonin with details to be finalized at a later meeting.

Local and General Easter Gatherings Near Sperling and Melita

Mr. and Mrs. Mack Taylor and guests from Sperling Oblast spent Easter week at Gordon Taylor's home in Sperling. Mrs. Gordon Greenaway of Winnipeg, formerly Carman and Helen Garbey in Rossburn, died in Winnipeg on April 1. Blair Lindsay family from Winnipeg visited Easter at Jack Lindsay's home.

Infant David John Matiowsky, son of Mr and Mrs Andrew Matiowsky, was christened last Sunday at the Ukr. Greek Catholic Church Solsgirth Man. Rev R Zakrewsky officiated. God-parents were Miss Joyce Koscielny and Mr Wm Mc Kietiuk.

Easter Weekend Visits Spread Across Rivers Vita and Winnipeg

Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Halliday and family hosted visitors at Rivers on Saturday. Mrs. T. Martin of Glenella spent the past week with her mother Mrs. Halliday. Mr. and Mrs. Martin joined Easter gatherings with Mr. and Mrs. Y. G. Murray in Minneapolis. Ed Hawryluk of Winnipeg spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. A. Belinsky. Morris Cesmystruk of Vita visited Easter week with Mrs. Zemliak. Nick Morris traveled to Brandon over the weekend with his wife and family who had stayed there the prior week.

Flowers of Hope campaign envelopes filled at Shoal Lake

The Shoal Lake Roman Catholic and Legion ladies organized an April 2 envelope stuffing at Mrs. Lionel Shust’s home for the Flowers of Hope campaign. Over 5000 envelopes completed. Seeds planted will bloom as a symbol of hope for retarded children and the Cosmos flower.

Transportation problems to be discussed at Sandy Lake meeting

Mr F A Owens supervisor of transportation of the Department of Education will hold a meeting on Thursday April 16 with local and neighboring school boards and other interested parties about problems in transportation. Mr L Labossiere will accompany and provide information beyond transportation. Neighboring boards are welcome at the Collegiate Auditorium.

Obituary of Nick Bidochka of Oakburn at 78

Nick Bidochka of Oakburn died at his residence on March 30 at age 78. Born in 1885 in Austria, he immigrated to Canada in 1906, married Kathleen Kozak, and farmed near Rossburn before moving to Oakburn last September. Survived by wife, six children, 22 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, with services at Ukr Greek Orthodox Church Oakburn officiated by Rev Olesiak. Pallbearers listed and Raginski Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Funeral service conducted March 14 for Stan Chuba of Seech Manitoba at the local cemetery. Born 1929 in Seech district, son of Nick Chuba. A caterpillar operator at Swan Hills Alberta. Injured January 12 in a car accident died at St Joseph Hospital Dawson Creek British Columbia. Survived by mother and brothers Tony Oakburn Frank Oakburn Jack Barren River and sisters Jean Dnistransky Crandall Anne Tutkaluke and Helen Beulah. A brief winter return blocks some roads and halts mail truck service for the third time in four weeks. Sunday brings the season’s first rain, about a quarter inch, before a series of April readings shows variable temperatures and light precipitation.
