Rumor of One-Train Shipments Debunked by Retention Group

The Association for the Retention of the Rossburn Subdivision refutes a Prairie Rail Action Committee claim that the entire area crop output could ride a single train. They cite the CN Rossburn line metrics from Neepawa to Russell and grain receipts averaging 4.4 million bushels annually, equating to about 2,200 box cars and a 19 mile long train, arguing such a train is impractical.

Elkhorn Canadians crowned N C H L champions

The North Central Hockey League awarded its final season honors with Elkhorn Canadians winning the N C H L trophy. MVPs were Darwin Stonehouse for the South Division and a tie in the North Division between Bob Mazur and Glen McLeod. Top scorers were Bob Mazur 55 points in the North and Delbert Bowles 79 in the South. Goalie leaders were Jake Guay and Glen Scantlebury 5.74 in the North and Rusty Still and Billy Martin 2.40 in the South. The Angusville Poker Derby results listed four top finishers, with thanks to supporters for ski-doo trails in Birdtail Valley.

Hospital Auxiliary March meeting in Rossburn

The Rossburn Hospital Auxiliary met at May Lawless's home with 10 members. Minutes and treasurer's reports were presented. A hospital Showcase list was prepared. A small TV for the Children's Ward was proposed. Purchasing Committee to obtain prices before the next meeting. New cribs to be priced. A Easter Tea for patients planned. They will cater the A A Group Supper on April 21 and the Municipal Dinner on March 27. Next meeting venue to be decided.

District 7 producers elect Willis Kieper to board

Seven Manitoba cattle producers were elected by mail to join seven already elected by acclamation to form the Manitoba Cattle Producers Association board. Elected in Souris were Cliff Graydon, Don van Heyst, A O Henuset, Willis Kieper, Jack Douglas, Norman Edie, and Guy Johnson. Graydon Henuset Edie and Johnson had served on the interim board.

Brandon U Festival Adjudicators Open Sessions in Binscarth

Brandon University adjudicators begin musical and dance sessions at the Binscarth Theatre on Monday April 16 with over 300 entrants. Lawrence Jones, longtime Brandon University Music School instructor and North Western Marquette Festival judge, headlines a panel. 21 Southern Centres Get Airport Grants
