Secessionists Raise Palmetto Flag at Fort Armstrong
Early yesterday morning a large party from Rock Island Illinois, sympathizers with secession, descended on Fort Armstrong Rock Island and raised the Palmetto flag and fired a cannon in the event. A Davenport company marched to the fort and the secessionists retreated leaving their cannon and stoves behind.
