Pocahontas Super-Walk Set for Sept 27 Fundraiser
Communities in Pocahontas Laurens and surrounding districts hold Super-Walk assemblies to recruit walkers and sponsors for a 20 mile route starting at City Park Pocahontas. Walkers collect per mile pledges and return Sept 27 for lunch prizes, certificates, and celebrations. Proceeds support March of Dimes birth defect programs locally.

Britt to Host American Legion Conference
Britt Post No 315 will host the Eighth District American Legion and Auxiliary Fall Conference on Sunday September 21 in Britt. The event gathers 97 posts from counties including Boone Calhoun Carroll Crawford Emmet Greene and Webster with about 350 attendees. Registration begins 9:00 a.m. in the Legion Building. a service officer school follows at 10:00 a.m. Interdenominational services are at 11:15 a.m. The afternoon session starts after the noon banquet with District Commander John Seiler of Humboldt presiding. The Auxiliary meets in the Municipal Building with Mrs LeRoy Overman of Rippey leading sessions. A joint noon banquet features Commander Seiler and Mrs Overman as MCs. speakers include Department Commander Fritz Possehl and Auxiliary President Mrs Harold Bochart. A Saturday smorgasbord and dance precede the conference.

The Midwest Plan Service at Iowa State University released a handbook on Livestock Waste Facilities. Mel Powers, Pocahontas County extension director, says the guide helps producers address increased concentrations and pollution rules. Copies cost $2 and are available at county extension offices or by mail.
