A local boy, once fascinated with dangerous driving, shattered a telephone pole and later tested a country road curve. After multiple arrests and a spine injury at 18, he remains wheelchair bound, the town’s lone owner of a pole and a wheelchair.
Rolfe residents report visits to Waldorf College events, trips to Bloomington and Pocahontas, and moves to new homes. A new baby, Nancy Lee Rude born October 10 in Fort Dodge, is welcomed home. Local gatherings include Supper at Struthers and a blacksmiths’ meeting in Swea City as Kirchner of Bradgate becomes parents.
The D M T School News lists births at Lutheran hospital Fort Dodge RPebra Renee Kirchner granddaughter of Melvin Kirchner and Paul Lipp. visitors and trips include Bob Scanlan from Chicago and Dr J Goldthorp funeral in Chicago. Local sports and classes noted with honor roll, plays, and upcoming ticket sales.
Sixth graders practice fractions with lowest common denominators and those scoring 100 in spelling include Darlene Joann Shirley and Keatha Rae. Fifth graders work on division with two numbers and Irene Donald Diane earned 100 in spelling. Students map Germany France and study heat changes in materials. A new student Delond Reeves joined the fifth grade.
Sunday School class at the Methodist church drew 32 attendees for a party with Mrs. Paulson leading the business portion and gifts given to Mr. and Mrs. Skartwed. Entertainment was by Rev. Otis McQuary and Mrs. Bessie Boyce, with lunch by Nellie Brinkman and the Wilbur Roberts couple. Also noted are Rolfe Progressive Club’s October meeting, local reports from Des Moines and Humboldt districts, and probate notice for Eric B. Thompson dated January 6, 1954 with a November 8, 1956 hearing at Pocahontas courthouse.
A Methodist church gathering honored Miss Jeanie Henderson with a Friday evening shower at St. Pauls church. Guests included her mother Mrs Chester Truelson and grandmother Mrs Edna Henderson along with relatives from Fort Dodge Plover Ottosen Gowrie Pocahontas and more. A musical program directed by Mrs Martin Peterson followed the gift ceremony with corsages and a lace covered table display. The event concluded with Jeanie inviting attendees to her upcoming wedding.
Groom elect Kenneth Truelson to wed at St. Pauls Lutheran on November 4 with Jeanie’s red and white colors at the serving table. About 100 guests attended a reception hosted by numerous ladies listed as hostesses. In St Ansgar Carl Duenow reports 10 laying pullets lost likely due to silo nitrogen fumes. Mrs Delbert Kitner near La Porte City picked a cucumber 194 inches long weighing 3% pounds.
