The faculty of D M T will provide entertainment for the October Community Club meeting on October 20 at the schoolhouse. The program will show classroom situations by students and teachers for the audience. Six weeks of school have passed with good test results and improving English grades.
Readable notes cover classroom activities from grades 3-8 including spelling honors, reading lists, Halloween decor, and library books. Community events include a skating party, language lessons, and a pair of one act plays at the school to benefit the band. Local families travel, birthdays, and church activities are also reported alongside weather and a recent storm.
Mrs. Lou Smith from Long Beach visited Havelock. The Havelock Woman’s Club met at Mrs. Harold Wright’s home with good turnout and lunch served by Wright and Mrs. George Cole. The Thimble Club met at Mrs. Bert Gaskill’s, with a business social hour and lunch. The PTC plans an October 18 meeting at the school with chairmen and lunch organizers listed.
Mr and Mrs Elmer Williams and their daughter Vicky and friend Joan Cocking traveled from Des Moines Friday afternoon to visit the James Williams home and returned the next day. A break in at Have lock school last Thursday evening damaged the combination of the office safe and prevented opening the safe. Superintendent Dale McIntosh says the safe contained only postage, change and permanent school records with no further damage reported.
The update covers birthday treats, art projects, and reading books across grades from Second to Eighth. Students praised for perfect spelling papers, fire prevention activities, and early field trip experiences at Laurens Sun printing shop.
Seventh Grade undergoes the six weeks tests in science and language this week. A new social studies chapter begins while World Series was watched on TV. Keith Waters operated the machine for class. Bookkeeping students learn about trial balances and corrections. Typing accuracy ranged from 9 to 87 percent in a recent survey. The Friday material reports in practical English proved interesting.
Damage suits totaling 286,350 were filed in Sac County district court after a May Schaller traffic accident that killed two people.
