Community Notes From Spirit Lake Area Visitations
Charles DeVaul travelled from Spirit Lake for a social visit with friends. He plans to visit his son Frank DeVaul in Lehigh. Irvin Gurney and H. D. Grover attended events at Rush Lake. A Ladies' Aid meeting at the M. E. church concluded with praise for hostesses Herscher Whitney and Dunlap. I. C. Smith visited Rolfe for business and relatives. Mrs. Abe Nichols of Stockton Mo arrived for a family visit. The Nichols family once lived near Pocahontas. Walter Hersom and daughter arrived from Minnesota to stay with grandmother C. E. White while the daughter attends school. Will Froh handled business in Mallard. Many residents attended the Havelock Plover basketball game. Plover won. Vera Reents aided Mrs. W. M. Froh with housecleaning. Andrew Smith and Clyde DeVaul helped Peter Smith with coin picking. Walter Maltzahn visited William Froh. Henry Buck conducted business in Plover. A. F. Mick returned from Laurens after electrical work. C. R. Swanson resigned as manager of Hakes store after six years.

DiphtheriaDrill And School Contests Highlight Local Week
Rainy afternoon through evening weeks the school conducts throat cultures for diphtheria carriers with Keith Evans identified as carrier at the high school. Students prepare for the home contest with two weeks of training by Mrs. O'Brien of Des Moines. The humorous class elimination contest last Saturday saw ten entrants, four selected for the home contest. Four junior high pupils are absent due to diphtheria. faculty entertained at the Day and Taylor home Tuesday. Miss Ember Day of Gilmore City visits the grades. Mrs. Randall Melson visits first and second grades.
