Protect Young Fruit Trees From Mice and Rabbits This Fall
Orchardists should shield young fruit trees against mice and rabbits during fall and winter. A mechanical protector is best, using an 18 inch high by 12 inch wide one third inch mesh screen loosely tied around the trunk and buried two inches. Heavy paper wrapping works too, but tar paper is not advised. A resin wash can be applied to the trunk above the screen, though it may wash off in wet weather.
