Tea Tributes and Club Events Highlight Community Socials
A series of teas, bridge parties, meetings and social gatherings filled a busy week. Mrs. H. Brinkman hosted in honor of Mrs. R. P. Hodoway and Stephen Hodoway of Pittsburg with out of town guests. Mrs. Paul Brinkman’s bridge night awarded prizes to Mrs. Ranney, Mrs. Wilson and Mrs. Hodoway. Other events included a Duffy home party with guests from Pocahontas and Cincinnati, a PEO meeting at Brinkman home, and various club sessions across town. Louis Buck received birthday well wishes, and multiple OES and women’s groups held regular meetings with programs, refreshments and planned events for November.

He says shifting about 12 million dollars from the general fund to a state aid school fund would ease local property tax burdens and improve rural school efficiency while preserving local control. He urges rural Iowans to study the income tax proposal and favors a full state income tax schedule to fund education.

Patriotic Vacation Across the Plains in a Family Truck
Emil Anderson of Mediapolis took a 2000 mile trip this year traveling with Earl Hudson and son Lowell. They drove a truck visiting Chicago then transporting stock to Memphis Missouri and Greenfield Mississippi. A load of vegetables and sweet potatoes moved between cities before returning to Chicago and Davenport. The weeklong trip brought satisfaction to Emil.

Creston Salvation Army corps shipped the first national consignment of small duffle bags for American soldiers in English hospitals, with Capt. R. McCalip notified of the arrival. A Creston box containing soap washcloth razor blades and other toilet articles was forwarded to English hospitals. Proper ventilation of hog houses is urged as a good management practice since poor ventilation spreads disease and hampers sanitation.
