The town of Rolfe Iowa enacts ordinance 65 regulating beer sales. It requires class B permits with $300 annual fees, outlines business district locations, renewal terms, bonds, fitness investigations, and citizen criteria for permit eligibility.
Section outlines licensing rules for beer sales, prohibits transfers, sets transfer locations, revocation conditions, hours of sale, alcohol limits, dancing ban, lighting and visibility, seating capacity, and penalties for violations. Also restricts minors from serving, gifting beer, and consumption in public streets.
The ordinance sets penalties for violations including a fine up to 100 dollars and up to 30 days in jail for nonpayment, repeals conflicting ordinances, and takes effect after passage and publication. Mayor Fred Witt and Clerk J. H. Brinkman sign off on May 4, 1955.
Bradgate News Circle L of W S C met with Mrs E J Burr and others for devotions, lessons, and lunch. Circle II of W S C S met at Mrs Laure Worster’s with devotions and a bake sale. Friendly Circle hosted by Mrs Henry C Olson with a social hour and lunch. Numerous families visited or hosted relatives from Ottosen Bode Ottosen Council Bluffs Waltham Minn and Algona.
Mr and Mrs Will Brown visited Mrs H C Worster Sunday afternoon and Mrs Tillie Hanson. Hans Isacson A C Johnson and Cleland Isacson attended dinner at Roger Isacson home in Humboldt with Bill Danielsen Thora Klingsen and Lea Miccalsen as other guests. Patricia Jacobs Simpson College student surprised her parents by returning for the weekend. Mrs Inga McCreary and Jens Petersen called on Ferris Malcolm in Gilmore City.
Iowa State College economist Fran is A Kutish says May and June will reveal hog market trends as slaughter rises. Jan through March federally inspected hog slaughter up 19 percent, with April early gains. Corn prices ease in weak Chicago market as total April corn stocks hit a new record. CCC and mill holdings offset farm stock decline.
Disappearance declined last fall while winter use held near last year. Total oat holdings exceed a year ago and approach the 1946 April 1 record. Barley stocks hit record highs with off farm grain sorghums rising. With near normal crops, market tightness seems unlikely and price rallies from scares should be short lived.
Pocahontas county farmers have until May 16 to apply for certified small grain and forage crop seed. The Iowa Crop Improvement Association notes late applications are tentative with extra fees. Eligible oats include Andrew Ajax Bonham Cherokee Clarion Clintare Clintiland Mo 0 205 Nemaha Sauk.
Coffee prices rely on Brazil bean crops and early indications show strong harvests. Cocoa and chocolate may also drop in price this fall due to a large cocoa crop. In Iowa about 25 000 people were treated for cancer last year, per the American Cancer Society.
County Extension Director E I Rosenberger notes the second Calyx spray has been applied and urges a cover spray about every 12 to 14 days for worm free apples. Many small orchards use one pack sprays combining insect and disease controls for clean fruit.
