Dick Leib, a 15 year old freshman at Pocahontas County high school, won the county essay contest for Iowa Is Great. His work impressed judges for originality and statewide pride, advancing to district competition with 16 counties in North Central Iowa.
Dale Goodell, county extension director, announces a national boys 4-H uniform adopted by Iowa clubs. Pocahontas County clubs may inquire at the Farm Bureau office about the outfit, which includes dark green trousers and a zipper jacket with the 4-H emblem on the shoulder. A dark green tie and white shirt complete dress uniform. buy whole outfit or jackets. Also notes Frank Pope of Waucoma displaying every Iowa auto license plate since 1911 in his garage wall.
Helga Pfluger of Baden Baden Germany writes to Beryl Wickre thanking her for a gift parcel. She describes items enjoyed such as coffee tea chocolate stockings handkerchiefs and clothing made from sacks. She notes a piano destroyed by aviation and mentions a recent birthday and plans to mail a photo and prayers for Beryl and family.
George Pirie of Mallard was elected president of the Pocahontas Cattle Feeders Assn for the coming year at the annual spring banquet in Pocahontas on April 21. Guy Bendixon of Gilmore City named secretary for 1949-50. The event drew 170 farmers and featured cattle feeding reports and marketing discussions. A fatal accident involving Harry Asp le as the group concluded the gathering.
Board of Supervisors orders landowners to cut destroy or suppress noxious weeds under Chapter 317 code with staged deadlines from June to July 1949. Weed Commissioner to enforce program with costs assessed to landowners if not complied. County Auditor to publish notice in official papers.

In Pocahontas County Iowa an instrument purporting to be the last will of Mattie Bruner, dated April 17 1948, was filed May 5 1949. The hearing to prove the will is set for 2 00 PM at the Pocahontas County Courthouse before the District Court or Clerk, requiring all interested to appear and show cause why the will should or should not be probated.
