Iowa State College tests show many oat and barley samples from farmers germinating poorly due to overheating from molds and parasitic infections. Barley shows foot rot and spot blotch. some samples even have scab. Russell Perry died Friday March 2 at University Hospital Iowa City after an illness diagnosed as rheumatic fever. Specialists said the illness stemmed from an injury when he was thrown from a horse two years earlier. He was a sophomore at Havelock High School and is survived by his parents Mr and Mrs C M Perry several brothers and sisters and many relatives. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Laurens Monday officiated by Rev C L Day of Havelock with Rev Chas Seward assisting. Interment followed in Laurens Cemetery. The family receives heartfelt sympathy.
The Havelock Woman's Club entertained their husbands and friends with a Washington Party in the school building's domestic science room last Thursday evening after a postponement from February 22. A 3 course dinner was served at 6 30 with a red white and blue color scheme.

After a dinner a short program featured a play by club members. Each person brought two white elephants and these items were auctioned off. The Kitchen Symphony provided musical interludes during the social hour closing the evening.
Legion Auxiliary met Thursday evening with good attendance. A fruit basket honored ill member Elim Nickelsen and sick list cards were mailed. New members added, bills approved, Library Day set for March 17, and plans made for spring events in Fort Dodge.
Mrs Ida Knight hosted a dinner at her home on Sunday honoring the birthday anniversaries of Shirley Ann Lothian 11 of Palmer Kay Whitmore 3 and Norma Clare 4 of this city. Guests included Mr and Mrs Paul Lothian and family of Palmer Mr and Mrs H N Hamilton of Rolfe Lester Hester of Council Bluffs Mr and Mrs S S Whitmore and Stanley Mr and Mrs Howard Knight Mr and Mrs Walter Knight and Arthur and Ned Goodchild.
