Community column records visits and illness among residents of Pocahontas Bradgate Rolfe and Des Moines. Mentions new garage purchase by Howard Gibson and summer plans including band concerts paving work by Booth Olson Construction. Birth of Phyllis Marie Kline and local social events at Mishler home and with Huseby and Buck families.
Mr and Mrs J L Miller and sons of Titanka visited the S H Gill home Sunday. Ray Graver carried mail on R F D No 2 Saturday for Will Hilton who was ill. Israel Halder and children, Forrest Mason of Pocahontas and Mr and Mrs Jim Williams were guests last Sunday in the Wess Mason home. Jim Williams returned Friday from a visit with relatives in Des Moines.
The Woman's Club met at Mrs. Will Nowack's country home for the last session of the season. Officers elected to serve next year include President Mrs. Geo. Speer and Vice Presidents Mrs. Harold Crowell and Mrs. Will Fowler. Secretary Mrs. Will Boysen and Treasurer Mrs. Geo. Plantz. Custodian Mrs. Martin Larson. A luncheon was served by Mrs. Nowack and Mrs. Will Smith after the business.
Miss Margaret E Barry of Peterson and Frank Crawford of this place wed at the Congregation parsonage Ayrshire on June 4 with Rev Lawrence J Weinert officiating. Mrs Crawford a Rolfe high school graduate and former rural school teacher. Frank son of Mrs Mollie Crawford, lifelong Plover and Have lock resident, now working at Gibson oil station. Newlyweds reside above the post office with friends to visit. Best wishes for a long happy life.
M L Chase died at the home of his daughter Mrs Joe Edge on Sunday June 8 1936 after a period of heart trouble. Survived by sister Mrs Will Goodchild of this place and several children including Mrs Joe Edge Clarence Earl Marquis Chas and Mrs Gerald Beman plus many grandchildren. Short services were held at the Edge home Tuesday afternoon and the funeral took place at Fonda with burial there.
A King's Herald meeting occurred at Miss Alice Keerles residence with seven members and leader Mrs. C L Day present. Mrs Day led story reading to much enjoyment, followed by games and an excellent lunch to close the afternoon.
The Insurance Department of Iowa certifies Western Assurance Company authorized to transact fire windstorm auto and other property damage insurance in Iowa until April 1, 1937. Statement dated December 31, 1935 shows assets Liabilities and capital surpluses with total admitted assets 4,258,796.51 and surplus for policyholders 2,582,057.17, issued in Des Moines by Ray Murphy Commissioner of Insurance.
Rolfe residents host relatives and friends from Fort Dodge, Laurens, Ottosen and Des Moines. Visitors include Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Nuss, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Paulson, A W Ives, Dr. and Mrs. Beam, and others. A truck shipment to Sioux City and health consultations in Iowa City are noted. A summer plan for Doris Dean and a Fort Dodge park picnic wrap the local social outline.
