Miss Frances Hannawalt visited Des Moines for the weekend. Several Pocahontas and Laurens residents spent time in Havelock and nearby towns visiting relatives. The senior class enjoyed outings to Twin Lakes and Fort Dodge, with many local families hosting guests and attending events. Play Day and Community Picnic Closes School Year
The annual playday and community picnic featured an eighth grade commencement a pony and bicycle parade through town led by the band. Prizes went to Dean Sandy and Stanley Whitmore for decorated bicycles, Rose Lou Randolph for the best decorated tricycle, and Betty Weischar for the best doll buggy. A noon picnic followed on the school lawn with races won by Mrs. Emory Johnson and others. Donavan Speer and L. Luten won pony and bicycle races as Havelock beat Mallard 7 6 in baseball the closing highlight.

Marathon and Havelock met on the local diamond Saturday in a stubborn 9 to 7 game won by the visitors. The Ducks edged Mallard 7 to 6 here Friday. Sunday saw Fort Dodge provide the foe as Sneals rallied from two losses to win 16 to 12.

Decoration Day Observed By Local Legion Ceremony
Decoration Day was observed here last Saturday with a program arranged by the American Legion and Auxiliary at the school auditorium. Ros W. Tompkins of Rolfe gave an excellent address and the high school provided music. After the program, a ceremony at Washington Cemetery honored war dead with a salute by the Lewison firing squad before Arnold Williams concluded with "Taps".
