Pocahontas County Fair Opens With 4-H Exhibits And Events
The Pocahontas County 4-H Fair kicks off Thursday at 8:00 a.m. with 4-H Building entries and judging for Home Economics. Friday includes 4-H Farm and Garden, livestock, and pork activity with contests and a Bar-B-Que. Heritage Crafts Festival highlights Bicentennial crafts, with demonstrations by local volunteers through Sunday and a livestock auction Monday morning.

Armageddon Rock Band to perform at fair dance Sunday
The Armageddon Rock Band from Des Moines will play a public dance at the Fair on Sunday July 27 from 9 p.m. to midnight, weather permitting. Admission is $2 per person and the event, announced by Fair secretary Mel Powers, also features Rhonda Fulcher and community acts, with trophies and contests later in the evening. The band travels Iowa and parts of Minnesota, South Dakota, Nebraska with over $20,900 in gear.

Plover Garden Club Hosts Flower Show
The Plover Federated Garden Club held a colorful show in the Shoemacher building on July 16. One hundred people from ten Iowa towns plus guests from South Dakota and Montana attended. Seventy two arrangements were displayed with Mrs. Charles Wasko winning the Tri Color Award and Creativity Award for Green Sleeves and Time to Rest respectively. Karen Peterson also earned the Award of Distinction for Dare to be Different. Horticulture featured 60 plant specimens plus seven junior arrangements. Alice Andersen of Laurens judged the show. A silver tea followed the event.
