Railroads Join Civilian Air Spotter Network in Iowa
Three major Iowa railroad systems have volunteered 493 stations for civilian aircraft observation posts as part of a national air defense network. With 3,000 civilian spotters already organized and eight-hour shifts, Iowa plans 24 hour service starting July 14 with 11 counties feeding Minneapolis and Chicago centers for rapid reporting to radar and interceptor bases.
