Hog Market Outlook and Farm Profits for 1961
United States farmers plan a 5 percent rise in spring farrowings per USDA survey. Iowa State economist Francis Kutish predicts hog prices could dip 0.73 to 1.24 dollars, with top Iowa hog prices next fall around 14.50 to 15.75 dollars. If 1962 farrowings rise, fall prices may decline less, while beef poultry gains and an expected 1961 recovery affect margins. 1960 fall pigs may be carried on low-cost rations, not profitable beyond 240 pounds, with early 1961 spring pigs likely to fare better on higher protein rations for faster growth. Prices could soften briefly between now and mid-February but should stabilize. hog marketing may be more uniform than in 1960.

Mrs. A. T. Heiter enjoyed a joyful birthday Thursday with four sons and families visiting from Dakota City Humboldt and Pioneer. A seven pound daughter named Rita Jane was born Wednesday January 11 at Lutheran hospital Port Dodge and both mother and baby returned home Saturday.
