Rolfe School reports a busy Valentine week with seven students out sick from mumps but still sharing valentines. Read alouds advance in Bird Rabbit and Foxes groups while Bear and Squirrels groups enjoy new books and math drills. First and second grades describe parties, arithmetic, borrowing, and spelling 100s, with art projects and Lincoln valentines.

Valentine Day Reflected in School Activities
Fifth graders celebrated perfect attendance on Valentines Day with heart shaped cookies by Paul Biederman and Janis Sue Wilson. The class raised 8.35 for March of Dimes and studied history Spaniards Coronado and wild horses, geography Pacific regions, averages in math, nouns and verbs in English, and science on heating and cooling. Junior High lost a basketball game to Pocahontas 42-30 with a Valentine party and class boxes for valentines. High School focused on trigonometry with tangent cotangent sine and cosine, solved by formulas and division.

Hronek received gifts and social afternoon. Miss Erma Pattee hosted a 6 pm dinner for Hronek and the Hammes couple. The parish ladies society held a parish card party with 500 and pinochle games. Winners included Joe Nedved, Mrs Martin Alexander, Clifford Smith, Alice Louise Bartosh, John Kreschi, Mrs Anton Poduska, and Joe Bartosh. Refreshments were provided by committee led by Mrs John Krejchi. A society meeting is set for Wednesday afternoon March 7.
