Rolfe Community School underwent extensive updates to welcome fourth through sixth grades from Des Moines Township. Upgrades include new ceiling and lights in the high school assembly, carpet, painted gold lockers, new windows, and new gym dressing room lockers. Classes shifted spaces with Mrs. Knoll and Mr. Duerling assigned to new rooms.
Troy Pederson son of Mr and Mrs Kenneth Pederson of Rolfe will perform an acrobatic routine on the Bill Riley Talent Sprout Show at the 1971 Iowa State Fair in Des Moines this Saturday. He is among 24 children ages 6 to 10 chosen for initial competition. He previously performed at the Hobo Days program in Britt last Saturday.
Pfc. Jerry L. Sandvig 20 son of Mr and Mrs Donald L Sandvig Rolfe completed a 14 week automo tive repair course at the U S Army Ordnance Center and School Aberdeen Proving Ground Md He trained on wheeled and tracked engines transmissions and chassis components He then left for duty in Germany with the 88th H E M Co V Corps His wife Marcia Hansen resides in Rolfe.
Nomination papers for the district 5 school board director and treasurer are due by midnight Tuesday August 24. election day is Monday September 13 with polls at Rolfe school from 12:00 noon to 8:00 pm. Kenneth Pederson seeks a three year term as director and Amy Turley runs for a two year treasurer term.
Rolfe Community School starts the 1971-72 year on August 25 after two days of staff workshop. A back to school swimming party for all students and 1971 graduates is set for August 24 from 8 to 10 p.m. at the Rolfe Area Swimming Pool with 50 cent admission. The opening day features new instructors Grace Schill Linda Solheim Gloria Pautuk and Bette Brinkman, with kindergarten sessions 8 30 to 11 15.
Sixty four or fewer students earned a reading badge this summer at Rolfe Public Library by finishing at least five books. Fifty four readers will attend BOOKWORM parties on Tuesday August 24 with films games and refreshments. Party times 1st–3rd grade 10:00 a.m. and 4th–7th grade 1:15 p.m.
Earl W. Young 68 longtime Rolfe resident died suddenly Friday at Sac County fairgrounds Sac City. Funeral Monday Rolfe United Methodist Church officiated by Rev Warren A Bintz with organist Mrs Charles Anderson. Burial Powhatan Cemetery Plover. He married Minnie Klein 1928 and lived in Havelock Plover Rolfe. three children John Jim Ethel. seven grandchildren. survived by wife two sons daughter sisters and a brother.
Rolfe senior citizens host a 6 30 potluck at the Library basement Monday August 23. Craft Club meets Monday August 23 at 8 00 p m in the Library basement. Teresa Baker bridal shower set for Tuesday August 24 at 8 00 p m in St Margaret s parish hall. Amvets Auxiliary gathers August 26 in Town Electric recreation room for a 12 30 pot luck dinner.
Rolfe area families vacationed at Vac ation Village on Lake Okoboji the week of August 9 15 continuing a multi year tradition. The group included numerous couples and relatives such as Russell Winkle black and L W Wilson families plus Reigelsberger Pedersen Crotty and Spangler connections. Dick Laurent and Inga Ryen joined to deliver dinner for Lester Spangler's birthday with Bob Wiegert joining later.
Wm Hutchinson superintendent Rolfe Community School announces five bus routes for the 1971 72 school year with first pickups near 7 20 am. Parents should ensure children are ready and on time. Drivers must not wait more than 60 seconds per stop and call ahead if a student will not ride.
The budget committee of the Northeast Town and Country Community Chest will meet Monday August 23 at 7 30 p m at the Town Electric Light and Power building. The meeting is open to anyone interested.
