Duncan Grant was called for military service and reported at Pocahontas on Monday. Art Erickson and Dale Whitmer have received their calls and will report Thursday, April 20.
25 years ago on Thursday April 27 1939 Mrs Paul Amick was honored at a post nuptial miscellaneous shower in the basement of St Margaret s Church Sunday afternoon Roger Chapman has been sick with measles and his brother Keith has just returned to school after illness Frank Cox enjoys a new grandson and is rebuilding a corn crib and granary Winifred Brinkman spoke to Pocahontas Rotary about 4 H work Jim Wilson visited from Jefferson to spend the weekend with his mother Muriel Wilson Mr and Mrs F E Grant and daughter Beverly traveled to Des Moines to hear Nelson Eddy returning home Tuesday
Ten year ago excavation work accelerated for the new Rolfe library site. The Rolfe Methodist Church hosted the April 10 1954 marriage of Elizabeth Mackey and Lloyd Lindsey. Easter Sunrise services drew over 400 at the Butler farm hosted by the Rolfe Lions Club. Weekend visitors included J Jean Mather Vickey of St Paul and Basil Menkelsen of Pocahontas. Palm Sunday services featured Susan Johnson’s confirmation and dinner at the Johnson home.
A 20 year old Miss Frances Phillips daughter of Mr and Mrs Wm Phillips Rolfe performed solo during a YWCA ceremony in Sioux City marking the capping of a new nursing class. A birth announced for Stephen Brinkman Hodoway son of Mr and Mrs R P Hodaway Fort Wayne Indiana born April 10. Postnuptial shower for Mrs Richard Rainwater Eloise Brinkman hosted by Ernest Vaughn with about 30 guests. A L D club met at Laura Jensen's country home electing officers Laura Jensen president Belle Pollock vice president and others.
Thirty years ago a group of 17 students from a rural school near Sioux City led by Miss Marjory Vaughn sang with county rural school children on Station KSCJ Sioux City Journal Sunday program. A ewe at the E E Wilcox place birthed four lambs all well developed and large. Ed notes this quad birth is his first such set. Burdette Graeber, S U L sophomore, makes the honor roll for first semester. Robert Lokerse, Rolfe high star, set a new low hurdles mark 28.2 seconds. Mr and Mrs H E Enikenberry and Donald visited Spencer to mark S M Huffman’s 90th birthday.
Miss Ira Olerich resigns from Pocahontas school to pursue a tryout with William Keighley in New York after leaving town April 7.
Redpath shows feature a leading lady in Give and Take. The Ernest Vaughn family drives a new Oakland sedan purchased through local agent F. M. Ritchey. Forrest E. Grant plans a six room colonial bungalow in northeast town near Crookston. Lily Grove born to Mr. and Mrs. Jas F Grove on Easter Sunday.
In Pocahontas County District Court Edwin J. Thuemling pled guilty to assault and battery on charges of assault with intent to inflict great bodily injury. He was fined 50 dollars plus costs.

Guy B Kerns to Helen Snyder NE1 1/4 and NE 1/4 Sec 35 SE 1/4 Sec 26 98 32 drainage agreement. Alice Prendergast et al to Emmet J Barron SE2 Sec 12 96 34 quit claim. Albert Stoffel et al to Emmet J Barron Bi SE4 Sec 12 90 34 quit claim. Clyde Speer of Havelock dies at 58 after his 1949 Buick crashes into a barn. heart attack or blackout suspected. Barn fire follows crash at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Havelock Fire Department and volunteers battled a barn fire but the victim could not be saved. Pocahontas County Sheriff officials and County Coroner Dr. W F Brinkman investigated the accident. No licenses issued since last publication. District Court filings show no new cases since the prior report.
Jerry R. Donovan of Pocahontas announces his candidacy for County Sheriff subject to Republican primary voters in June 1964. He asks for voters support and continued backing from the electorate.
Marie Pavik of Pocahontas Iowa seeks the Democratic nomination for county auditor in the June 1 1964 primary. Citizens are urged to vote and give continued support.
