Reed Canary Grass Shines as Forage in Iowa Trials

Reed canary grass emerges as a leading non leguminous forage crop in Iowa tests at Iowa State College and the Iowa Station since 1919. It thrives in wet soils yet performs well on upland ground, outyielding timothy, meadow fescue and brome in normal years, with a very dry year showing twice or thrice their outputs. Horses favor it over timothy, though seed production remains a constraint.
