Road around Clear Lake awarded in Pocahontas county
The Pocahontas county board of supervisors changed the road location east of Clear Lake north of Varina and last Tuesday let contracts to improve the highway. J L Hartman and J B Ackland of Laurens will clear the right of way and grade as the route follows the lakeshore east side then three miles south to Varina. The project is described as a fine improvement.

Humboldt County to Gravel and Grade 40 Miles of Roads
Nearly forty miles of Humboldt county roads will be graveled this year at about 75000 dollars. The project covers various townships including Corinth Grove Norway and Lake with seven miles in Norway and seven more in others. About twenty miles will be graded, linking Rutland and nearby routes and extending to Beaver Vernon and other towns.

William Ulysses Bruce of Omaha Nebraska died suddenly at his home on Friday March 28 1930 after recovering from a prior heart attack. He was born November 14 1868 in Pocahontas Iowa and built a career in Rolfe and Omaha before becoming chief accountant in Union Pacific Railway Company engineering department. He leaves wife Belle Fisk two children Jerald J Bruce and Wilma Kent plus grandchildren and siblings.

Funeral Rites Held for Local Figure in Omaha
Funeral services were conducted at the home in Omaha with neighbors, friends, and relatives in attendance. The service included solos by Harry Drisbow and a sermon by Rev. J. P. Lizard Creek Catholic Church Burns Near Clare
The Lizard Creek Catholic Church, one of Pocahontas county’s oldest, burned Saturday afternoon about five miles west of Clare. Built in 1870 and remodeled last year, the church was alight from the furnace area with basement smoke upon discovery. Loss is about 5000 dollars, partially covered by insurance.

Car parks itself after driver falls asleep near Pocahontas
Clarence Zeck returning to Plover via Primary No 17 fell asleep at the wheel late Saturday night. His Chevrolet coach veered onto the Strathman property in Pocahontas, smashed into a tree, and left Zeck with a lacerated head but no serious injuries after the car was backed off the lawn.
