First and second grades boast perfect spelling weeks with many students named by teachers. Students perform a spring play, celebrate birthdays, and study earth science noting day and night and the earth's movement around the sun.
In English they plan a mural of fish and flowers for the back wall of their room and each student draws a picture. Some collaborate on a group picture while others work solo. Geography lessons focus on China with Yangtze River life as inspiration. Friday spelling results include Karen, Garland, Carol K., Charles, Max, Linda, Carol P., Leonard, Jenice, Donald D., Nancy, Dennis, Dale, Ann, Ardlene, Sally, Stephen, Vianne, Janet and Joan.
The class notes reading The Five Little Peppers and Tom Sawyer, art shading and coloring of fruits and vegetables, daily puzzles, marbles and baseball interest, a trip to an Indian Reservation in Arizona, post cards from Japan, science lessons on elements and chemical versus physical change, copper and other materials on display, slides on subjects and predicates, a spring mood, a visitor Mrs Grant, a class play from a book report, weather charts and temperature checks, and a spatter painting session in art.

Fifteen students earned A’s in spelling last Friday. Junior high term papers and music booklets underway. eighth graders study Life Insurance and World War II. Seventh graders cover geography capitals English pronouns and arithmetic review. Iowa History explores state parks and railroads. skating party planned for the third week of April. Ten boys train for track each night.
The 1954 Wildlife Research Seminar is scheduled April 23 at the Warden Hotel Fort Dodge. Iowa State College Fisheries and Wildlife Cooperative Research Units host talks on pheasants quail fishing harvests rabbits and other outdoor Iowa topics. Attending will be State Conservation Officers biologists Conservation Commission delegates sportsmen farmers and outdoor writers. The program starts at 10 a.m. with a banquet at 6 p.m. Hotel reservations are advised. Renters At Pleasantville FFA youths rent and plan to farm a 130 acre tract with their own equipment.
Property owners and lienholders in Pocahontas County Iowa are notified of a proposed relief drain in Drainage District No 98. The plan, surveyed by W C Otto, recommends a relief line from Station 48+00 in SW SE 4 to Station 66+00 in NE SE 4, with a hearing set for April 22, 1954 at 9:30 AM in the Supervisors Room Court House Pocahontas Iowa.
Board of Supervisors directs briefing for a report and plans on file in the County Auditor's office at Pocahontas Iowa. Marie Pavik is named County Auditor and orders the process.
Public notice announces the formation of a drainage sub district in Pocahontas County Iowa. H D Coombes petitions for repairs and drainage improvements with engineer W C Otto reporting February 18 1954. The Board sets April 22 1954 at 2:00 PM to hear costs feasibility and plans.
