Library supporters announce next week’s canvass for subscriptions as plans near completion. Central Park appears to be chosen as the site without a city election. A December 27 concert at the Presbyterian church, run by the Woman's Club, funds the library building, with notable musicians from afar.
The city council met Friday night with a quorum to debate funding for the new sewer system and how to sustain maintenance within levy rules. Building permits were granted, while a hunting party returning from Antelope Springs reported a mysterious leg wound later blamed on a possible spent bullet.
Senator Swink attended the Trans-Mississippi Commercial Congress in Oklahoma last week and secured adoption of a resolution endorsing the beet sugar industry. He was named chairman of the Permanent Organization of the Congress.
Castle Lodge No 98 elected officers led by Joel W Todd and John Bunn with W J Brown as M E and W J Seller as K R S. Yeomen presented a vaudeville minstrel show, featuring Irish Swede and African cakewalk acts, drawing attendees back next Tuesday. A Farmers Union lodge formed in Barton schoolhouse with forty charter members and officers including J D Meador and H A Whitsett.
The 11 year old daughter of ranchman William Morrison was kicked in a horse corral while retrieving a hammer and died that evening. The child, Margaret, aged almost four, was laid to rest after a funeral at St Peters church conducted by Rev Father McGavick. Her mother’s mother Mrs Griffen and her uncle James Morrison attended from Dal ton and Decatur to comfort the bereaved parents.
Marshal Croop attended a wedding ceremony in La Junta as best man in his official capacity to ensure the groom did not back out. Judge Preble oversaw the proceeding in a Justice of the Peace office while Feliciano Diaz charges against Julian Olage for a sixteen year old girl were discussed. Osage agreed to pay costs and marry if needed, and Croop stood with the groom at the county clerk to ensure his nerve. S. A. McDonald visited from Denver to finalize building contract matters with the Presbyterian church, which accepted the structure with minor finishing still required.
