Local voters rejected the spring water proposal after a heated campaign. Officials expressed gratitude to residents for participating, noting the measure would have funded infrastructure improvements and water system upgrades. Community leaders vow to review alternatives and engage residents further.
A Rocky Ford Board of Trade assembly at K P hall discussed the Fowler Pure Spring Water proposal for city supply. City leaders and citizens urged cautious dealings, proposing a franchise and tanks for local use, plus plans to fund a public library near the depot and park with railroad assistance.
Judge Lindsey lectured at the M E church Bridey night in the Ep worth League Course on the Denver Juvenile Court. Walter Bishop and Lon Hadley are laying one mile of 12 inch tile to convey water from the High Line Canal to their 213 acre farms two and one half miles west of town. This will replace the open lateral and bring headgate water to their fields, a method common in California and elsewhere where water is precious, likely to become standard in the Arkansas Valley.
Indian Agent Collins bought a new harness for his team without blinders and, while traveling down South Main last Tuesday, a runaway collision near the opera house damaged a single rig and hitching post. After the wreck he settled with Mrs. Dora Howard by issuing a check for the value of her buggy.
Mrs M J Anderson hosted a festive Eastertide gathering for about fifty friends at her downtown loan and insurance office. Decor featured Easter lilies, a duck pond centerpiece with stuffed ducklings, a doll in a carriage drawn by Easter birds, and smilax. The menu included mushrooms, chicken patties, and Easter colored ice cream. A song-title guessing game awarded a large decorative egg to Mrs Van Hendricks.
Rocky Ford residents report worsened rail service with the 10:10 p m westbound train finally withdrawn after brief mail facilities and a return of no evening mail west or early morning east service. Promises of a revised schedule are made for a few weeks.
Friends and neighbors marked the twentieth wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Kelsey with a surprise party on the 25th. The gathering featured games, a phonograph, a lap supper of ice cream and cake, and a gift of a china set presented in the dining room. Mrs. J. C. Ginter gave the honor speech. Mr. Kelsey responded warmly.
A Grand Valley neighborhood meeting at the Best school house Friday night discussed a branch railroad joining the Santa Fe main line west of Newdale. Residents subscribed 1,005 toward right-of-way costs, with about 4,000 needed. Santa Fe authorities indicated readiness to build once guarantees are secured. A survey has long been in progress.
Plans by Rocky Ford Normal District officers set a two week June gathering for 150 or more teachers. Lecturers will include leading Colorado schoolmen as the Rocky Ford schools receive high praise in the March Rocky Mountain Educator. Principal Jones, Miss Deen, and Supt Bolles are noted for harmony and strong pupil-teacher engagement as district growth continues.
A comparative statement for the Rocky Ford post office ending March 31, 1907 reports receipts of 14943.19 from stamps and box rent, a gain of 5197.60, and total money orders issued 69064.46 with 52434.00 paid. percentages show gains across several departments. W G Brown of Swink sugar factory won the church wiring contract at 590 dollars, covering chandeliers and all materials and labor.
