Senator Taggart to Tour Indiana After Adjournment

United States Senator Thomas Taggart plans a wide state tour starting soon after September, aiming to meet as many Hoosiers as possible. Jurors Named for September Term Drawn by Officials

Motor Launch Catches Fire Forcing Sinking Near Tell City

A gasoline launch carrying six men from Tell City caught fire a few miles above the city opposite J H Bartrim's farm and had to be sunk to save it. The hull was flooded, all occupants escaped injury, and the stranded party were later picked up by Nig Martin in his auto.

Perry County Centennial Celebration Starts Next Sunday

The Perry county centennial celebration begins at Cannelton next Sunday with special services at all churches and runs through the week. A twelve episode pageant is set for Thursday and daily events fill the schedule. All events are free with numerous attractions including four bands a merry go round Kinzie’s airship acrobats goats and speaking by state candidates rail and boat specials.

Forgery Suspect Arrested After Rockport Check Scam

A man using the name W A McCarty of Owensboro Kentucky and the title Doctor passed forged checks in Rockport and Owensboro. Morris Gordon one victim lost five dollars. McCarty also faced forged checks from multiple banks. He was tracked to Evansville, arrested by the county sheriff, and jailed. The suspect, about seventy, bore blank checks from several state banks.

Robbed by Pickpockets Near Wesley Richards Road

Frank Grimwood of Petersburg, working on the Wesley Richards rock road, was robbed of his watch and a small sum of money Saturday night before the fair. He had been drinking and lay asleep in an open lot when thieves rifled his pockets, likely crooks from the Owensboro fair.

Weeds Run Rampant Beside City Marshal Ellis’s Lot

The weeds cover the pavement in front of the lot rented by City Marshal Ellis on Ard Street. Mrs. Phillips who runs a boarding house nearby faced threats of prosecution. Street commissioners should serve notice on Ellis and not on an innocent party. The weed overgrowth crosses the sidewalk opposite the Democrat office, making even potatoes preferable to this jungle.

Autoist Suffers Severe Forehead Wound at Riverfront

An Owensboro autoist was injured when his Ford struck a line post near the riverfront and glass shattered his windshield. He cut his forehead and bound the wound with a handkerchief, continuing homeward with the front axle bent but no other damage.

Rockport Fair Delights Crowds and Finances Improve

The Rockport fair drew nearly 11 000 on Thursday and posted a financial improvement after years of tight margins. A Wednesday flag raising opened activities with Boy Scouts, plus 25 from Tell City, 15 from Dale, 10 from Grandview, and about 50 from elsewhere. Floral Hall exhibits were excellent and races strong, though the night fair failed to recoup costs. Rockport campfire girls and Richland group staged polished drills under their leaders.

Arthur B Frank dies suddenly at home

Arthur Burton Frank aged 34 years four months and one day died suddenly at his Seminary street home early last Monday. Funeral services were held at the Baptist church on Tuesday at 2 30 pm conducted by Rev M Q Robbins. Interment followed at Sunset Hill.

Bertram Ruth Breaks Out Of Jail Near Hatfield

Bertram Ruth a county jail inmate awaiting trial for criminal assault escaped early Thursday using a monkey wrench passed from outside to pry bars apart. He traveled about fifteen miles toward home across fields, aided by fellow inmates who deny aiding him. A bloodhound tracked him to near his home, and Sheriff Chapman recaptured him Friday afternoon.

Cleared in Petit Larceny Case Two Local Men

Ivan Fallowfield and Victor Carter of Richland faced Esquire Poole on a charge of stealing 22 dollars from stump poler Henry Kramer near Midway. Kramer had warrants dated August 9, August 29 set for preliminary hearing. Fallowfield was cleared while Carter under 16 was sent to juvenile court. James I. Houston defended.
