G H Hazen of Warrick county won the Democratic nomination for joint state senator representing Spencer Vanderburg and Warrick counties at Evansville’s stormy convention. The vote was 351 or Hazen to 282 for Carleton. Committees were named amid contested seating and proxy voting from Huff Jackson Carter townships.

The Louisville Boosters arrived by special train last Thursday, met at the station, and were driven to Main Street for greetings and speeches before continuing to Evansville. A accompanying band played at the courthouse as the visitors distributed souvenirs to locals.

The thirty fourth annual Rockport high school commencement was held Tuesday night at the auditorium. Rev Virgil Thompson spoke on the Chemistry of Manhood while the class received diplomas from A S Lindsey. The 1914 class, the largest to graduate, included Clara Betz Elgin Margaret Beeler Vitus W Brown and others. The junior class hosted a party at the Roberts home with yellow and white colors and a class prophecy read by Miss Cecil Kincaid. A commencement dance followed at the auditorium with many attendees.

Where the flag was born at Arch Street Philadelphia
The article recalls the 239 Arch Street house where the first flag with thirteen stars and thirteen stripes was made by Mrs. John Ross. The flag design came from George Washington and was adopted by Congress on June 14, 1777, after a committee and Washington commissioned Mrs. Ross to sew it.
