Residents of Rock Port report Halley’s comet plunged through its own tail about 14 million miles from Earth. News advised early morning views Wednesday and strong evening sightings in the west on Thursday through Sunday as the comet brightens before fading.
The circuit court adjourned Friday after a six week term with no session until the first Monday in September. Several guardianships and estates were settled or continued, with reports approved and real estate sales confirmed. Multiple cases were set for trial in September, and various guardians reported balances or sales. The April term costs totaled $533.55.
Tina Therber sues John Therber for divorce with care and custody sought for their infant. Attorneys EB Boyd Swan and Mason represent the plaintiff. John S Stuteville also sues El Nora Stuteville for divorce alleging Luther Davis failed to support his wife and child.
Miss Elizabeth Riegel daughter of Mr and Mrs Peter Kievel married Orteies Harms of Wilhelmshaven Germany Friday in Shawnee Oklahoma The ceremony was conducted by Rev Father Blaise at St Benedicts Catholic Church After May 20 the couple will reside at 15 10th Street Shawnee Oklahoma The bride moved from Rockport to Shawnee to work as a stenographer in a large department store.
T. S. Anderson, former president of the Daviess county Savings Bank and Trust Co. of Owensboro, Kentucky, was found guilty by a Henderson circuit court jury on a false swearing charge and sentenced to eighteen months in state prison. He had been tried twice before with a prior three year sentence reversed on venue and a hung jury in January. The latest verdict surprised many as a disagreement was expected.
Township assessors finish property valuation updates and report substantial increases in assessed values across parcels. Officials note broad gains in taxable values, reflecting market activity and revaluation efforts across townships.
County assessors report a substantial gain in personal property and new improvements for 1910 taxes, led by Luce and Carter townships. Totals exclude Harrison and St Meinrad yet to be reported, with prices and systematic assessment blamed for the rise. Also included is a technical note on dodder parasitism in clover and alfalfa.
A station report warns dodder as a serious impurity in clover and alfalfa seeds. Red Clover seed shows 5.6 percent dodder presence while Alfalfa seed tests 61.5 percent. The weed parasitizes host plants, spreading as fields grow, risking crop losses and future pest status.

The M E church was crowded with friends and relatives for the Rock Port high school graduating class. Rev. H E Boldrey delivered the Buccalauerate sermon to a large audience while a city church choir provided music. The address by Rev Boldrey was greatly enjoyed.
Mayor Kercheval was advised by Civil Engineer E. K. Shively now based in Seattle to expect blueprints for the proposed sewer system at an early date.
Professor L. J. Roettger is slated to deliver lectures at county commencements in Rockport Eureka and Chrisney on June 6 and 7. The events highlight a series of regional ceremonies honoring graduates.
Indiana towns plan three graduation ceremonies at Rockport fair grounds and court house with about one hundred graduates from Ohio Hammond Luce and surrounding townships. Professor L J Roettger will deliver the chief address and F J Reinhard will give the welcome as the Rockport band provides music.
Democrats aided by progressive Republicans push to curb a railroad regulation bill crafted by Attorney General Wickersham After a conference with six railroad presidents the measure would mothball merger limits in the Sherman act Wall Street anticipated the draft and stock trading reflected insider knowledge Critics say the bill would weaken protections for the public while favoring corporate mergers and railroad powers
W A Carson and Arch Stevenson presented a proposition to release the railroad from stock delivery obligations in exchange for a $790 surplus fund release from county taxes. The council accepted, also freeing the city from Grandview extension aid within limits to Lake Drain. Similar action is pending with Ohio township which has paid $1,200 of the surplus funds.
Harley Davis of Illinois was jailed on a guilty plea to grand larceny. He allegedly took Mrs America Harters pocket book containing $30 from her Gentryville home while visiting a son. Traced from Gentryville to Tennyson and Rockport, he was arrested Tuesday evening by Marshall Ellis.
William Hall aged 39 a lawyer and Minnie Owens aged 34 both of Spencer county obtained a marriage license. Rey Buys 19 a farmer and Vice Bence 19 of Spencer county obtained licenses. William M. Jackson 36 a laborer and Lucille Willis 18 of Spencer county secured licenses.
The Third Regiment band of Owensboro Kentucky has been engaged for the Brockport fair this year to provide musical entertainment and march in parades as part of the event program.
