Fire destroys Motteler home on Hureka Road
The Motteler residence on Hureka Road burned to the ground after a boy lit waste paper in a grate and an ember drifted to a dry roof. Mrs. Motteler and neighbors fought the blaze but little could be saved. Insurance covered 700 for the structure and 200 for household goods, totaling a loss of 1200.

Narrow escape as Will Young stabbed by Will Langdon near cemetery
In a Friday night altercation near the cemetery, Will Langdon stabbed Will Young in the side and cut his throat lightly. Young lost much blood but is improving after medical care. Langdon fled the scene, boarding the Messenger toward Owensboro, then leaped overboard to avoid a pursuing officer and remains at large. A warrant now rests with authorities.

Lewi A. Niblack longtime Rockport merchant and mill owner died at his home on 2nd street last Friday morning. He was over eighty two and had been ill for over a year, never leaving his house during that time. Niblack once led local business in milling and owned the Novelty flour mill.
