M. H. Harris had his left eye removed Monday after an eye injury at the straw board factory. A straw scratch caused swelling and infection, making removal necessary to save the other eye. He is recovering well from the operation.
A June Sunday wedding at Richland Methodist Church joined Miss Rava Lee Lloyd to Mr. Darrell O. Neidiegh of St. Paul Indiana. Rev. C. C. Pirtle officiated. The bride wore white satin and georgette with pink rose corsage. The ceremony featured a ring bearer and flowers. After a bridal supper, the couple traveled to St. Paul and then to the Great Lakes before Purdue where Neidiegh will enter his senior year in agriculture. Out-of-town guests included Bloomington and Evansville residents and Oklahoma City observers.
The Home Economics Association of Spencer County was formed by women in this city on Monday. It unites clubs in Chrisney Dale Silverdale Grandview Midway Luce township and New Boston to promote Girls Canning and other home economics work. It will meet semi annually with the next gathering August 7 at Grandview Chautauqua grounds. Officers elected include Mrs Louis Woolfolk president Mrs S F Tower vice president and Mrs J S Pattie secretary.
Miss Ursula Halbruge of this city and Edward Rohde of Indianapolis married at 6 30 am last Saturday at the bride's home on Eighth street. Rev J H Diehl officiated in the presence of close family and friends. The couple will reside in Indianapolis after a short honeymoon. Mrs Rohde is the eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs Louis Halbruge and has worked with the C W Halbruge Dry Goods Co. The groom has been employed on the new county courthouse construction this past year.
Henry Kerstiens of this city wed Miss Marie Marcelle of Peoria Ill at the Catholic church in Peoria. They took a brief trip to St Louis and will reside in Rockport. The groom is son of Mr and Mrs Henry Kerstiens and works with L M John Furniture Company. Francis Kerstiens attended.
Three local banks Farmers Bank Old Rockport Bank and First National Bank of Rockport filed in circuit court to undo a Florentine Fishback deed to William Fishback executed February 17 1920 and recorded June 7 1920 after Florentine s death The suit charges the $21 000 consideration was colorable and the deed was to defraud creditors The banks seek removal of William Fishback as administrator claiming insolvency if the deed stands and that estate debts may lack other assets.
Cull Hamilton head of a Rockport insurance firm died at 2 15 PM Wednesday June 9 after a six day illness described as flu and pneumonia. Funeral Sunday at his residence on South Second Street. Survived by wife Mary Vogel, three brothers James Seattle Wall y E G Hamilton Tampa and four sisters Nora Thompson Indianapolis Eula Jennings Lida Tampa Katie Terry St Louis. He led a prominent local business career after serving as cashier at Lake State Bank and Old Rockport Bank. funeral by Rev J H Diehl.
The Water Queen traveling show sails into Rockport at Main street landing on Saturday evening June 12. It presents Where the Trail Divides a comedy drama featuring Norman F. Thom and a cast of capable actors with Prof. Murphy's trained dogs and ponies as an extra attraction. The Water Queen is noted for good shows and strong entertainment value.
Mrs. Eliza A. Mackey aged 89 died last Monday at her home in Chrisney after a three year illness. Funeral was held Tuesday at the Presbyterian church with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. Rev. W. R. Thom conducted the services. She was mother of Mrs. Pharaoh Chrisney.
Richards and Martin were awarded a contract last Monday in Jasper to build a rock road in Dubois County about two and one sixth miles long. The project price is 84000 dollars and materials must be hauled ten miles to the site.
On Sunday afternoon June 13 at 2:00 the local Modern Woodmen of America camp presents a two reel motion picture at the Alhambra Theatre called The Value of a Life. The film highlights the society’s anti tuberculosis efforts and claims over 2000 patients cured. Admission is free to the public with age restrictions and invites tuberculosis and lodge members from nearby towns.
Rockport defeats Tell City in a season opener with a ninth inning run by Rockport after a cautious game. Tell City batters Leimgruber and Chappel faced Pool and Ryan as Woodlawn of Evansville plans a future matchup with Rockport and Tell City Grays visit June 20.
A P Fenn former Perry county auditor was found dead in his Tell City home Friday morning. Heart trouble was listed as the cause as neighbors described him as a leading Perry county citizen.
