Ear narrowly saved as mule kicks boy
Clyde Brown's twelve year old son was kicked on the head by a mule Tuesday evening. The mule's hoof grazed the ear, requiring several stitches to close the wound. Dr Lang attended and reports the boy is recovering nicely.

John L Frank died Thursday at his daughter's home near the little covered bridge. Rev Tiedt led the funeral Sunday morning. Interment was in Rockport cemetery with ex soldiers in charge. He served four years in Company D 42nd Indiana Infantry. Pallbearers were Allen Gentry D C Partridge George Wandel Conrad B Vogel John Feiger and Chas Maas.

Edward Jeffers dies after long illness at Newtonville
Edward Jeffers died last Thursday at his home east of Newtonville after a lingering illness. The funeral was held Saturday July 18 at New Hope Church. Born in Perry county August 1837 he was nearly seventy two. He served in the Civil War with Company B 42nd Indiana and was a faithful soldier. He leaves a wife ten children and many relatives and friends.
