Mrs Emily E Kitchen widow of John R Kitchen died Sunday at 12 15 p m at her home after a four week illness of grip and brain trouble An apoplexy struck at seven on Sunday morning leaving her unconscious until death five hours later Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 pm at the residence by Rev Karl Kramer Interment was at Rockport cemetery She leaves four sisters Mrs Rennie Knight Mrs Martha Day Mrs Josephine McCoy and Mrs Ella Forston and three brothers John Avery Will Avery and Adolphus Avery Also some half siblings in Warrick county Her husband died January 5 1902.
The National Bank of North America in New York City with a capital of 2 million and surplus over 500 thousand was closed last Monday. Charles A. Hanna, national bank examiner, named receiver to liquidate assets after runs drained funds and nearly forced suspension.
Officials move to call in a bank examiner to liquidate the bank’s business. The president asserts that with proper management the bank will pay out in full to creditors and depositors.
John F. Nancy of this place enlisted in the regular army at Owensboro Kentucky last Thursday for the coast artillery service. After passing the physical exam he was sent to Jefferson Barracks St Louis Missouri where he will join the branch for which he enrolled.
Dr W T Varner died Wednesday at 3 p m in St Marys hospital Evansville after being stricken with paralysis while visiting a patient. He had been in poor health months and uremic poisoning listed as cause. He was reared in Spencer county and served one term as county superintendent. Survived by wife and three children. Age forty one.
Merritt Fay Singleton a prominent rancher from Deer Creek marries Clara E. Guinn in a Saturday afternoon ceremony at the bride’s home in Porterville California. The event surprised both families and friends.
The Republican township primary in Ohio saw clashes between the courthouse ring and the people. Claude S. Snyder won the township trustee race by a narrow margin over Mel Swallow. John Wagner decried by the field and the ring, while Samuel M. Brown and Lowry B. Deason were set as Justices of the Peace without opposition.
The will names executors James Huston Rennie Knight and Maude Martin. It directs payment of debts and funeral expenses then burial as for her husband. Bequests of 1000 dollars to Maude Martin Rennie Knight and Prudie Huston. Remainder divided between Huston children and Wallstout. other half to Avery and Day heirs. Executed May 22 1907 witnessed by W M Smith and Wm McCullough. A note mentions a father threatening drastic action against his children.
A woman is held in jail facing a charge of non payment of dog tax. The case is before Judge Jones in the ongoing court proceedings.
A woman living with four dogs and a pony in open country near town was arrested for harboring dogs without paying the dog tax and for using profane language. She moved to Barnett's schoolhouse area and was jailed and to stand trial before Sgt. Jones. others note divorce suits and a custody issue involving three children.

Trials set Feb 4 and Feb 13, and a divorce case Weiss vs South scheduled. Incest charges dismissed. Fuchs seeks private sale of John Vogel estate property. Lilly Johnson sues for divorce with alimony and support terms.
State Board guidance explains licensing for beginning teachers after August 1, 1908. It defines classes A B and C by years of experience and license length, requires twelve weeks training for college graduates, and sets salary baselines by license and class. It also notes that successful experience from any state or private schools counts, and credits for correspondence courses are not allowed.
Carl Hamilton will sever his connection with the Old Rockport bank as assistant cashier next Friday and assume charge of the Lake State bank at Richland City as cashier on February 1. He has five years at Rockport, starting as bookkeeper then assistant cashier. He will commute until spring when he moves to Richland City, and Dick Hopkins likely succeeds him in Old Rockport.
Henry Daming seventeen, son of Mr and Mrs William Daming, died Wednesday at four am at the southeast Richland City home after a two week illness. Funeral Friday at Rockport Catholic church with Rev J F Gordon officiating. burial in Catholic cemetery on Grandview road. He was a frequent Rockport visitor and viewed as an excellent young man.
