The Milwaukee Sentinel reports that the county option campaign failed across numerous states. Analysts say the spread of the movement did not gain traction, with elections yielding defeats and little momentum for broader adoption.
The Milwaukee Sentinel surveyed states on liquor policy, detailing anti saloon fights and county option results. It notes Illinois and Wisconsin opposition to county option, California not an issue, and many states marking shifts in governorships or legislatures aligned with local option or statewide prohibition.
Mike Schaefer a farmer near Kensington in Luce township was gored by a mad bull Monday morning. He suffered a deep abdominal wound and broken ribs, requiring over 100 stitches. Doctors Rhoades of Eureka and Lang of Rockport attended him. his condition improved by Thursday noon.
J Hall Rhodes was bitten and bruised when a Jennett cow attacked as he fed a young calf in a field. He yelled for help but no one nearby could assist. Rhodes escaped after several minutes with a badly lacerated left hand and other injuries, likening the incident to Daniel in the lions den. He is a son-in-law of Bob Gentry of this place.
Ferdinand News reports steel for the Huntingburg Ferdinand line will arrive on the right of way by December 7 and first trains soon after. St Meinrad citizens back the project with bonds to extend the line toward Newtonville Grandview Fulda and Hovanston near the Ohio River. Road expected to run first as steam then convert to electric once mileage and a power house site are determined.
A collection of Christmas wish lists from Rockport Indiana children dated December 1908. Kids request dolls, doll heads, cradles, toy dishes, candy, fruits, drums, games, a ring, a Christmas tree, a fire wagon, toy soldiers and other small gifts. Names include Katheryn Osborn Louise Adams Russel Carlisle Lella Dane Julia Mesion Lillian Hoch Ruth Gager Ora Olive Elva McCoy and families Martha Luckado Robert Luckado.
The pooled tobacco from Spencer Warrick and Du Bois counties was sold Monday in Richland City by the Southern Indiana tobacco growers association board of control. Purchaser was C P McClary of Boonville. About 3 000 000 pounds pooled and non pooled tobacco were sold with four grading levels and set prices across first to fourth grades for burley and leaf. The sale aims to ease financing and storage costs and will circulate over 200000 in the Pocket.
The Rockport Fair company reorganized last Monday at its annual meeting appointing T. C. Basye as president E. M. Payne as vice president C Partridge as secretary T E Snyder as treasurer Charles Lieb as superintendent and Henry Hoch as superintendent of races The grounds will be greatly improved for the fair August 16 to 21 with a large crew ready to start work to make them more beautful and convenient than before.
Tim Murphy, a beloved Evansville figure, is booked at Wells-Bijou theatre Wednesday December 16 in his new play Cupid and the Dollar. Orpheum vaudeville shows continue to draw crowds under the same management, promising courteous treatment for out of town patrons.
A local bridge project advances as a contract valued at 324 dollars is awarded to repair the old covered structure. The work will allow the bridge to join traffic smoother and restore safe passage for nearby residents and commuters.
Regular session of the board of commissioners approved a $324 contract with Sam Bean to repair the Grandview road covered bridge for safety for a year or two. Officials discussed a joint bridge with traction interests. Licenses granted to H P Biedenkopf and Frank X Buxer. Trustees approved payments for Pasteur Institute treatment in Indianapolis. Janitor and health staff appointments were made including Dr D V McClary as secretary and Dr Eva Buxton for pauper medical care.
Deputy County Auditor Rollie Morris reports 1907 tax settlements totaling 80 963 51 in all funds with distributions to state and county taxes, township and road taxes, school funds, and various special levies. Delinquent taxes collected amount to 3 205 91 and township apportionments are listed for Luce Ohio Hammond Huft Harrigan Carter Jackson Grass Clay Rockport Grandview St Meinrad Dale Gentryville Chrisney and other towns.
Early Friday night a fire destroyed the Jeff Ray & Son warehouse and grain elevator at Rock Hill. The blaze started in a stable and spread rapidly, consuming 2850 bushels of wheat 200 tons of hay and about 200 bushels of corn. Loss to buildings and contents about 10000 with about 6000 insured. Cadick Milling Co. warehouse across the track was saved by favorable winds. Ray plans spring rebuild with a temporary office and platform for grain receipt.
At the council meeting last Monday the sidewalk assessment roll for the year was approved with no complaints. The absence of objections indicates all interested parties are satisfied with the work and related assessments.
Esq. Wm. Jones moved his office this week to a room one door south of the Rockport Water Works Co room at the Auditorium Co. The space has been recently repaired and looks neat. His old location will be used for a feed store.

James Marvin Butler sues Henry Hoch to cancel a note. Ben Huffman represents Butler. The Troy Model Brewing Company sues Albert Cooper to quiet title to real estate. Huffman also serves as the plaintiff’s attorney.
