Rally Draws 2000 in Rockport for Dems as Robinson Speaks

In Rockport a Democratic rally drew more than two thousand attendees. John L. Robinson delivered the speech while James Lockhart, the Congressional candidate, did not speak. The piece notes strong turnout from Spencer and nearby areas with decorations and a Grove stand.

A Rockport and Spencer county reunion was held at Woodland Park Seattle on August 11 1913. About sixty attendees enjoyed fried chicken and a picnic dinner then planned to make the event an annual gathering.

Residence Damaged by Fire on Seminary Street

The home of Mrs. Watson McCoy on Seminary street suffered severe damage from a noon Monday fire started by a defective flue. Firemen arrived quickly and extinguished the blaze after the upper story had burned away. Furniture in the lower level and much of the upper floor were saved, with Mrs. McCoy carrying insurance.

Rockport Schools Open September 4

Rockport schools set reopening for September 4 with pupils asked to gather at the Washington Building on Saturday August 30 and teachers to convene on August 29 for preparations and briefings.

Rockport public schools will open on September 1. All new pupils except first grade should meet the superintendent on Saturday August 30 at 1 30 in the Washington building office. Teachers prepare for the year with meetings August 29 and 30. High school text books may be exchanged for new with a payment of the difference under a new state law.

Former Spencer County Citizen Dies in Oklahoma

Thomas J. Hackleman aged 67, brother of Dr F M Hackleman of this city, died at his Terrion Oklahoma home on July 30. Born in Spencer county he moved to Kansas thirty six years ago before settling in Indian Territory where he remained until death. He left three sons and two daughters, most residing in California, and his wife survives. He leaves brothers John W in Chetopa Kansas Wm R and George W in Oklahoma and four sisters in Louisville Kentucky and Oklahoma.

Corn crop in county shows favorable yield prospects

Bottom land corn exceeds expectations with good cultivation and light recent rains. Jackson township reports unusually strong corn in creek valleys and a likely 60 to 75 percent of full yield. Carter and Clay townships show fair bottom land output as late plantings benefit from recent showers. Timothy and clover fail, but cow peas prosper and may replace hay.

In Warrick circuit court Judge R J Roberts heard the Evansville Railways Co. case against Roscoe Dennison over the right to carry passengers from Newburg to Cypress Beach in gasoline boats. The court ruled for the defendant and dissolved the restraining order after thirty witnesses attended.

Doctor injured in street collision with wagon

Dr. G W Warner of Evansville was injured when his auto hit a rock and crashed into a two team wagon. The windshield was struck by the tongue and a deep forehead wound exposed bone. Glass fragments caused additional injuries. the car and wagon were badly wrecked.

Will of David S. Tullis Probated for Eliza Life Interest

The will filed for probate leaves all property to wife Eliza J. Tullis for her lifetime. Upon her death, 33 acres in section eighteen labeled the home place go to Harry E. Tullis and 46 acres known as the Winkler place go to Vivian Shrode Bohman. Eliza is named executrix. will dated May 17, 1912 and witnessed by Wyoma Schumacher and J. G. Burkhart.
