Rock Valley shoppers will enjoy Old Fashioned Bargain Days this weekend with savings from local merchants. Deals include half price waste baskets, 15 cent coffee and donuts, free shotgun shells with TV purchases, instant hairsetter offers, and bananas at 1 cent a pound. Mrs Margaret Schroeder Democratic candidate for the Iowa House conducts an active campaign week visiting Northwestern College Orange City Just-A-Meté Club West Central classes and Western Christian Hull meeting women at Mrs Mayers. She plans talks at Boyden Hull schools a Barb Anderson coffee and a caravan tour visiting Rock Valley Hawarden Chatsworth and more with county Young Democrats joining in.
The Rock Valley Commercial Club shifts its November meeting to Tuesday November 1 due to Veterans Day. A 6:00 p.m. dinner will be held at the VFW Hall and the Christmas program will be discussed. Members are urged to attend.
Specialist Four Stanley E. Hagen, an Army carpenter, arrived in Vietnam late last month with the 452nd General Supply Company, a former Reserve unit from Minnesota. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Noble C. Hagen of Hudson. The article also notes seven states with more than a million veterans: California, New York, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Ohio, Texas, and Michigan.
Hegg Memorial Hospital has secured a permanent state license after meeting all requirements. Volunteers are being contacted to support a hospital fundraising drive on November 25 and 26, inviting community help with a few hours of time.
Jack Marcus Gribble of Mt. Lawley Western Australia and his wife joined Jol Van Olst family in Rock Valley for about a month during a world tour. Mrs Gribble is sister of Mrs John Van Olst. Gribble spoke of his Australian home and is a member of Swanhouse Lodge No 116.

Fran Nieman’s defending champions at Mauricé-Orange City regained first in the Stongland Conference by defeating Boyden-Hull 21-6 while West Lyon fell to Central Lyon 10-7. Central Lyon moved to third with a win over West Lyon, keeping title hopes alive with Akron and Boyden-Hull upcoming. Sioux Center and Rock Valley each beat Akron 16-0 and George 32-12 respectively, as five league games remain including Central Lyon at Akron and Maurice-Orange City vs George.
Dennis Vis won the Bee Football Contest with six wrong guesses. Laura Jean Vis placed second, missing the top prize on a tiebreaker and earning three dollars.
