Public School News Notes Highlights Activities and Students

Sunshine Class members finished family themed illustrated booklets with free line drawings. The list of students with perfect spelling lessons last week includes Marjory Velgersidyk and others. Basketball practice began Monday under Coach Vanden Berg with a large squad. Freshman and Junior class activities, debate work, orchestra plans, and music contests are noted. Margaret Keegan returned after an absence and staff assignments are announced for noon duty. Astrid Lindgren visited the school on Monday.

Paved Road Completes Colfax Route To Atlantic Seaboard

Des Moines connected to Atlantic Seaboard after No 82 paving at Colfax Jasper County finalizes a long controversy. Public protests over routing through Nusness district ended as the Tube Highway Commission approved a southern route shortening distance. Antique and Curiosity Show at GD A Hall

A two day antique and curiosity show is set for November 7 and 8 at the GD A Hall Ri Day and Saturday afternoons and evenings. Sponsored by the Ladies Aid of the Methodist Church, the event will feature a paper containing the announcement of George Washington along with old coins a spinning wheel and many other antiques. Admission is 25 to 10 cents. Fostered by local memory of past entertainments attendees are urged to attend and items may be left with Ms. M. Collenbaugh through Monday week.

Death of former Le Mars resident Minnie Lynch

Miss Minnie Lynch a former Le Mars resident died after a long illness at her home 208 Fifth Avenue SW aged 59 She taught in Sioux county rural schools before moving to Le Mars where she lived a self sacrificing life and aided her nephews and nieces Funeral services were held at St James Church Le Mars with Rev Father L F Cooper officiating and burial in St Joseph Cemetery

Violations of Game Laws Prompt Fines in State

Reports from Hawkeye and Spirit Lake describe several men cited for gun and traffic infringements. Lehner faced a $30 fine for shooting on a public highway with a pistol in his car. Ry Henderson, a school teacher, paid $20 plus costs for reckless gun stunts. In both cases weapons were confiscated and sent to the state fish and game department in Des Moines. funds go to the school fund.

Four Accidental Deaths Reported in a Day State Board

In one day four accidental deaths were reported to the state board of health. Causes included a driver failing to stop before crossing a primary highway, loose gravel and fast driving, and a loaded gun taken from a car.
