One Vote's Power Highlighted By Sioux County Group
The Sioux Settlers Homemakers Club met at Martha Baatz home on Wednesday October 2. The group heard a talk on the importance of individual voting and discussed past close elections. Sheriff Harry Dykstra of Sioux County, 77, Orange City, Ia., died Friday at St Joseph Mercy Hospital Sioux City after two operations for a ruptured blood vessel. He served as sheriff since 1939 and was not seeking re election. Survivors include his wife Sophia and children, along with several grandchildren. An open letter from the sheriff announced a long service in Sioux County and praised local officials.

Schroeder Talks Farm Labor Wages and Subsidies at Rotary
Mrs. Margaret Schroeder Democratic candidate for state representative spoke at the Rotary Club Monday about migratory farm laborers earning 65 cents an hour and being exploited by large food processors. She urged reform of the government subsidy program, citing California company benefits and unequal subsidy distribution favoring corporations.
