Birds Dazed by City Lights Kill Many In Maquoketa
A block of text describes birds perishing after colliding with electric lights in Maquoketa Iowa. It reports the birds flying toward a southern wintering area and smashing into wires buildings and glass storefronts in a bewildered encounter sparked by bright street illumination. The piece then shifts to news of road paving progress to the Missouri line and a Red Cross annual roll call in Sioux County with dates and local leadership. It notes October drive timing for rural districts and emphasizes support for veterans with mental health needs and tuberculosis.
